Of course she would be the first to come. I smell her intoxicating perfume in my nose and I take a deep inhale, closing my eyes briefly to better take it in. She smells like heaven on earth. My heaven. When I reopen my eyes, there she stands before me, as perfect as ever. I can see that her muscles have toned. She looks just as dangerous as ever, calling to me on every level. I bet she's been sinking herself into training, anything to stop the pain. I can see it so obviously in her eyes, the same pain I've been feeling since the last time we saw each other. A whine escapes my lips before I can stop it, my tail lowering as my eyes plead with her. She has to understand that this was the only way I could think of to get her back. I can only hope she won't hold this against me, bringing a hostage, a pup, no less. Am I proud of myself? Of course not. I'm a desperate wolf and this is desperate measures.
I watch the tears streak her face and my heart sinks. I must get her back so I can comfort her. I want to wrap myself around her and protect her from the world but over these borders, she's a million miles away. Just like last time, I need her to move, but this time, I want her to move TOWARD me. I can't lose her, not again. Even from here, she should be able to see the difference. While her coat shines and her muscles ripple beneath her coat, my own midnight coat lacks in luster, dull and lifeless, my ribs showing a little and my eyes are bleak and dim. My life has been hell on earth since she went to Kalgalath and now I'm here to make amends for that.
I hear snarls before I even see the wolfess. When she starts growling commands, my hackles rise but the rest of me stays neutral. I won't attack anyone, not anyone but him if he makes a move. My voice is calm though I'm sure it won't be reassuring.
"As soon as I get what I came for, you can have her back. I haven't harmed her and if your alpha cooperates, I won't have to."
My eyes turn back to my angel, wanting her to know exactly what I mean by that, if she doesn't already. I came for her, her and only her. Surely she should have known the moment she caught wind of my scent.
And then the man of the hour arrives. My lips curl back into a snarl the moment I smell him coming, my bright blues already burning a hole in the atmosphere as I glare. His words don't gain a reaction from me, nothing but a haunting voice to respond.
"Say what you like. I could give a rat's ass about your opinion of me. You're a liar and a worthless one at that. You stand here and tell me she's no prisoner when you had to threaten my life for her to even go to you. The only wolf she needs saving from is you. You claim to care about her and yet you keep her away from the one she loves. Can't you see how much this is hurting her? Look at her, you worthless dog. Look at her tears and tell me who's the monster."
My words are a snarl. I cut my eyes to the side to watch a young pup call to Kalgalath before cowering behind his legs. Must be his daughter. Not exactly the crowd I was going for but at least there's witnesses to see. I have nothing to hide. Another wolf stops beside Hellene, not saying a word but its easy to see that once again, I am outnumbered. Of course this time, I hold a bargaining chip. My paw remains firmly on Khaleesi's back. I know she will want to go to her mom and I feel bad for keeping them apart. I hate putting anyone else through the pain I am going through but I have to go through with this. I have to, for her. I meet her gaze once more, my eyes softening like they only do for her. She is my world and without her, I mean nothing.
With a new ferocity, I turn back to Kalgalath, my eyes burning once more.
"You already know the plan. A trade, the pup for her freedom. You want to seem like the good guy around your pack, the hero of the story but you're neither. You held her here against her will, holding my blood as ransom for her continued 'loyalty.' You're sorry, Kalgalath. If she wanted to stay with you, she would have gone to you willingly. You wouldn't have had to persuade her. At least I don't put a face on around my peers. I don't care what they think of me. I do what I have to. I'm not forcing her to come to me. I'm not saying she has to leave with me now, or ever. I'm saying she has the right to leave if she wants to. She has the right to be her own wolf, with or without your influence. No more threats on my life. If you come after me, I'll hunt you down. If you send any of your wolves after me, I'll scatter them and kill them, one by one. Just try me. I'm trying to keep the peace. The pup's freedom for her freedom. Let her go. Let her cross the borders and be who she wants to be. She's not yours to possess."
I wait for his response, knowing full well that others could be plotting behind my back. I note that there are absent wolves from the last visit. Where's that black female who stood so loyally at Kalgalath's side last time? They might think to save Khaleesi but they would be mistaken. With my paw positioned on her back, any fast movement on my part would end in a broken spine for her. Pouncing on me will force my weight forward onto her, killing her instantly as my weight severs her spine. Any movements and I'll be forced to do just that. I don't want to hurt her, I want this to have a happy ending. All they have to do is play along. All they have to do is see their alpha for who he truly is and persuade him to be the good guy this time. Persuade him to give my angel her freedom, the freedom he never should have stolen in the first place.
