Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

She was new to this land, only in her second year of her life and her first on her own. Her birth pack had been struggling, even with all their kills, to feed the members; and so it was decided the ones that could survive on their own would leave the pack. Having being one of the best hunters and warriors, of her age, in the pack her odds as a loner would be better than most, so she left, but a year of being alone after being born and raised to among many others left her feeling empty. Her brown and cream fur ruffled in the wind, on the night of the harvest moon; she had caught the horrifying scent of decay upon the crisp autumn air. She started running towards it she didn’t know why she felt so inclined to investigate something dead but something in the air told her to go to it, in her limited experience she still had learned that it was never wise to go up against instinct and drive. She stopped as she came into the small clearing, seeing a dead female wolf. Upon closer investigation she found the female apparently died a warrior’s death.

“Rest in peace, sister of the fang.” she murmured pressing the top of her dark brown head in to the side of the deceased.

That’s when she realized, a secondary scent, and that of a pup none the less. Looking back one last time at the mother and she thinks, ‘I’m sorry I couldn’t help you, but I promise to try and save your pup’.With that she races off following her nose, her brown paws carrying her as fast as they can. Her brown ears perk as she hears the pup’s sorrowful call, his ragged voice coming from up ahead.

She slows to a trot as she sees another wolf standing in front of the pup seemingly ready to fight. The pup, which was on the ground, wasn’t by any means in good condition. The other wolf’s scent wasn’t right she couldn’t describe it, but the least she could do for the pup was give it a choice whether the other wolf meant it harm or not. She circles then walks out of the bushes making sure she’s is upwind from both of them allowing the wind to carry her scent towards the two, keeping a good distance away to attack or defend. She made sure her body posture remained relaxed not wanting to aggravate the grown male or to scare the pup. Of course she wasn’t even sure if pup was even still conscious, let alone in a mind to be able to make a decision.

“My name is Leafshadow” she introduces herself as analyzes the other grown wolf’s reaction.
