{Any!} howling ghosts, they reappear

It was nearly dawn, but the library was still shrouded in darkness. The only source of light came from the single candle still burning resolutely on the table, the sole sign that someone was still within instead of in bed where they belonged. A loud snoring sound was the main sound in the silence, originating from the massive golden tiger sprawled comfortably beneath the table where the candle sat. And there, hunched over a book so big he had to use both hands (and a considerable amount of effort) to lug around, was Danny. He'd fallen asleep hours ago and his face was now glued to the medical textbook he'd been pouring over for most of the night. He hadn't meant to fall asleep, especially after he'd snuck out of his rooms to come to the library in the first place, but the silence, the warmth, and the complicated terms on the pages had been enough to lull him into a stupor eventually. He still had yet to tell his family about his latest... development. Danny still feared, in some darker reaches of his mind, failure. He wanted to make his family proud of him, and he knew they would be so proud if they saw him become a doctor one day. But before he could be a healer, before he could start saving lives, he had to slog through is apprenticeship. At least Doctor Gupta, his teacher, was a remarkable person. He knew about all kinds of fascinating things, having originated from a place far different from Shaman, and was patient and kind as well. Danny knew he would be prepared for whatever the world threw at him when the good doctor was through with him, and that made all the studying and hard work worth it.

Danny grunted and sat up, blurry eyes focusing on the pages of his textbook. He wasn't nearly awake yet, as shown by his droopy eyelids and half-open mouth. Danny flipped his textbook shut, eyed the cover for a long moment while lost in thought, then hefted it into his lap.

"Sol, we should go h-h-home," he mumbled, his comment lost in a yawn, and nudged his familiar with his toe. Sol didn't move a muscle. Danny's sleepy mind found only one thing to do. Danny slid out of his chair, still clutching the book, slid under the table, and fell back asleep with his head on Sol's comfortable side. Only his feet, which stuck out from beneath the table, Sol's snoring, and the single candle remained as proof that someone was still inside.
