PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

YOU LEFT ME IN THE DARK

IMPAZIENZA

“Uncanny” was the word that sprang immediately to mind when Impa saw the familiar yet-unfamiliar form of a obsidian black mare making her way up the side of the mountain. Snow seemed to part before her, or at least presented little challenge to the mare’s thin legs, and the mare covered the ground at a pace that told Impa she was familiar with the terrain. Only a day or two ago the half-blind draft had met a mare who reminded her, very vaguely, of the Codebreaker of the Peak. Now she was here, in the flesh, as if Impa’s errant thoughts had summoned her, an Akhal-Teke as dangerous as a viper and not to be underestimated, a mare she had admired from afar and only briefly before something more pressing took her off the mountain.

Black Heart Machine was this mountain’s strength, and Impa felt small and insignificant despite her superior height, girth, and rank (currently) at the Peak. She had never spoken to the powerful mare before, had never dreamed they would be on anything resembling equal footing or that the black mare would deign to speak with her. But that was several years ago, and Impa had grown in many ways. She had much respect for the mare she’d never met, but she was no longer a young mare whose feathers trembled at the thought of being under the scrutiny of the slender mare’s clear, dark eyes.

Still, that did not mean she felt confident in the face of a legend. Impa stood off to the left side of the Akhal-Teke’s path, just out of the way enough so that if Black Heart Machine did not care to pause, the blanketed mare would not impede her progress up the mountainside. She held her head at a relaxed height and stood with her front legs braced against the incline as she waited for the former Codebreaker to stride within reasonable hearing distance. “Black Heart Machine,” she said, and the words rolled from her tongue and rang through the cold winter air as if she’d spent her life saying them. Impa was in uncharted territory now, and despite her latent anger at the former General, she wished that Anath were here now to mediate the conversation.

Impa had never before spoken face-to-face with a mare who was more Goddess than mortal.
