At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

Once he had dragged her clear of the beach and into the sanctuary and camouflage of the surrounding underbrush, he released her and shoved her roughly into the earth causing her to yelp once more. However, in truth she hardly realized that he had let go of her scruff for the pain remained – a dull, throbbing pain that told of the puncture wounds in her flesh. Slight tingling sensations as small drops of blood ran down her nape told her that though they were open, they were not serious, for no steady streams of her life fluids ran from her. It was only when he began to speak, his maw loosing words of threat, did she realize that he no longer held her. Listen princess, want to go home do you? Macaria’s flattened auds perked up a bit and she began to nod before they wilted again, her eyes casting their gaze down. “I’m sorry sir, I’m terribly afraid that you have mistaken me for someone else, I am no princess. I do want to go home though. Really really badly. Please, mister, I have done nothing to offend you, and my parents have already lost one of their pups… two really. One was taken by the Ice King and the other… well she wasn’t…” Before she could continue pleading for her freedom, he interrupted her, his vocals deep but smooth. Well how about I make you a deal. Savour your memories child, all you want. Here’s what I need from you in exchange. You walk on my left, at my shoulder and no higher. At no point do you stop following me. At no point do you draw attention to yourself. Macaria’s brows furrowed, confused – where were they going? Did he need her help? Why her? “Umm, sir, where are we going? Because if you are just bringing me home, I can lead the way, I know the way back. I … I don’t know why I would draw attention to myself. And why me? What do you need me for? If you needed help, you could have just asked and I would of helped you. Auntie – my aunt Kahlan, that is, she always told me that I should help whoever I can.” A sudden sense of daring entered her and her ambers dared a glance up, meeting his hazels and noting they were lined with red… when was the last time he had slept. Now get up! Follow me… your highness. Glancing down her auds wilted once again. “I told you I was not royalty… and I told you I would help you. You do not need to be so rude. I apologize if I have done something to anger you… and I understand you seem to be in a hurry but you look like you need sleep. You will need to be well rested if we are going to travel any large distance.” Her words were sweet, smooth as honey and she showed no fear no as she rose to her feet, his large form almost twice over her own. Her cranium tilted up and she straightened herself, knowing her father would not approve of her posture. “I will watch over you while you rest. Though you woke me from my slumber, I am well rested and in good health. I’m not much of a fighter but I’ll awake you if anything nears us. My name is Macaria, by the way. What is yours?” How naïve she was, how innocent. She had been kidnapped by a stranger and sought for his comfort and health and well being. He was crude and rude to her, and she took it all in stride, not realizing that the terms he constantly called her – ‘princess’ and ‘highness’ were insults. She sought only to aid him in whatever his goal was… no matter what the cost was to her. Perhaps she had spent too much time with her aunt, who happened to be known for her selflessness… but what Kahlan had that Macaria lacked was knowledge and experience. Turning slowly so as not to upset the brute, she painfully began to clean her scruff, her rough tongue removing the dried drops of blood as she awaited the titan’s dubbance. |
