aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Seeing Cody was still a shock to me. I couldn't believe he was actually back after all this time. And what a time to come back. Things were on the rocks with Kal and I didn't know what to do. And now the wolf that I had loved since I was barely a teen was back and expecting to come home like nothing happened. Maybe I couldn't call Aurora his home anymore. He abandoned us when we needed him most.. I just didn't know what to do anymore at all.

I contented myself with wandering the packlands, hoping for some clarity and finding none. The earth was my friend and the sky was my love and everything about this pack seemed to have a home in my heart. It all held me here and called to me when I was away. I knew for a fact that I would not give up the alphaship at any cost. At least, I wouldn't give it up willingly. I couldn't take the unsurety, as if the floor was crumbling beneath my paws. I had no inkling of how to even address Kalgalath anymore. It was infuriating and I couldn't help but boil with rage even thinking about him.

I tried to just focus on the push and pull of my limbs at work and to clear my mind. Easier said than done, right? It wasn't long before I began blocking thought that I came upon the perfect distraction. I swear, I smelled Cody nearby. But his scent was mingled with another, very familiar one... Blayre. And one more I knew but couldn't put my paw on. I picked up the pace, working towards them. It didn't take long, of course. I was small but fast as a bullet if I set my mind to it. I hadn't been too far off from where they were, anyways.

Aindreas. That was the third wolf. Of course. I hadn't seen him around in a while, which explains the lapse. I came in just in time to hear his snarled words. My gaze traveled from him to Cody and Blayre. What was that idiot doing inside of pack boarders? He knew better. That's when I saw it. Blayre. Her side. I understood instantly and turned on Aindreas. A rather feral growl ripped from my chest, nothing like the light soprano of my voice, and it surprised me. Aindreas. I recommend that you calm yourself down this instant before I calm you down myself. That's an order from the Queen of Aurora. My tone was low and harsh. I will not tolerate such hostility in my home. I don't know how they do things over in Munashii but here, we're civilized. I stared daggers at the male, not caring what he thought of me. I snapped the air in his direction as warning. Had Kal not taught his children any manners?

Satisfied that he would cause no further trouble, I turned my attention to the important matter at hand. I walked quickly to Blayre, my anger morphing instantly into the overwhelming concern that was washing over me. I came between her body and Cody's, gently pushing him away. It wasn't a gesture of rudeness or anything. I knew he would understand that it was simply me wanting to check on her. We never had needed many words before.. As I passed him, I pressed into him lovingly. My amber jewels found the cut easily enough. Cut was a bad word for it, though. Gash was much more appropriate. Upon my examination, I found it clean already and shot Cody a grateful look before turning back to my adoptive daughter. My goodness, Blayre, are you alright? This gash looks bad... What happened? There was nothing but the concern of a mother in my gaze and I gently nuzzled against her, thankful that whatever happened, it wasn't worse.

For a moment I turned to Cody, first glancing at Aindreas. What the hell were you thinking? You know better than this. You've been gone too long to just waltz in the boarders. Be thankful it was just Aindreas that found you and not Kalgalath. Kal would have had your head on a platter. Don't scare me like that, okay? My voice was low. Meant only for his ears, but with Blare so close to us, she may have heard. It was near impossible for me to keep my concern for him out of my tone. I always had worn my heart on my sleeve with the ivory brute. I just couldn't help it. I reached up and licked his cheek quickly. Thank you, old friend. The words were accompanied by a pointed look at my daughter.

Things were going to get complicated with Cody back but I was ready to deal with it. All of it.

...
Queen of Aurora Borealis.
