aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

A howl caused his aud to flicker and consciously, Kalgalath changed his direction so that his path would intersect with hers – the owner of the vocals – Chenzii. He had not seen her in, perhaps, a full moon cycle, maybe a bit more. At the pack meeting, she had seemed so forlorn and devastated with Chiron’s repeated disappearance. It seemed that this time, his departure would be permanent. Even should he return, he would find that it was not with open arms and forgiveness as it had been before. It would be with a single warning and, if not heeded, death. Chiron had been given a second chance, one he had sworn to take advantage of full-heartedly. He had utterly failed to fulfill that promise, instead doing the opposite by once again abandoning his mate, his Alpha, and his pack. It would be better for everyone if Chiron never returned to this pack.

At the pack meeting, Kalgalath had updated the pack about Moondown Shadows and their alliance, and then had gone on to say that they were in need of someone to relay this information to Moth in Saw Tooth, the only other pack with which they held an alliance. Zig had held that position, before her own disappearance. Though his… ‘mate’… had made the timely appearance to return to the pack during the meeting, Kalgalath had believed it to be best if she no longer held rank of ambassador. She was worn down and practically a stranger to her pack, her mate, and her daughter. There were more important tasks for her to fulfill… and thus had Chenzii stepped forward, offering herself up to the job. After the pack meeting, they had met and Kalgalath had offered her comfort, telling her to take all the time she needed to complete the task. He had not seen her since, but it seemed that today she would return. In her absence… much had changed.

Still, he loyally made his way silently to her, glad that he had rinsed the blood from his pelt so as not to give her a fright. He smelled of the pack, just as the boundary smelt of him. His pelt was ingrained with the firs fragrance, for he spent nearly all of his time running among them, hunting and patrolling. Still, his mind was elsewhere now and so even when she came into view, he found it hard to focus. “Chenzii, welcome back. You are looking well.” He rubbed against her briefly, expressing his contentment. He was happier perhaps that she had once again returned to a healthy state than that she had fulfilled her mission. Moth likely had her own network of spies to spread information to her and likely knew of the change in leadership, perhaps also of their newly forged alliance. He had sent Chenzii out of respect for Moth, that she should hear it from him. And to give Chenzii a job to do, to get her mind off of her lost mate. Apparently, it was just what she had needed.

Her pelt had been ragged, dull and frayed when he had seen her last, her orbs red from tears. No longer. Now each hair was gleaming, her fur a shiny ebony that looked well kept. More than that, her form had filled out and no longer could he see every bone in her body just under the skin. Instead he saw muscle and fat returned to her. Her first real meal after her mourning had been a hare he had caught for her, and she had viciously ripped it to shreds as if she had not eaten for weeks… likely she had not. But now… now she looked like the varg that Kalgalath had met all those moons ago. Healthy. Proud. Strong. Slowly, Kalgalath lowered his haunches, sitting aside her, waiting for her vocals to tell of her success. But his auds wilted as his mind played over and over the last few days… and thought about the days to come.
