Solarius chuckled gleefully, clearly making no effort whatsoever to look ashamed at Nico's mock admonishment. The troublemaker resisted - barely - the urge to slobber on the back of Nico's head as the bird sat at his feet, knowing that he might miss and accidentally mar one of Renn's lovely sketches. It was easy to be happy, and playful, when the mood in the room was so light and friendly, and he could see Danny brightening up more than he had in weeks. Danny couldn't hide the grin that stretched his mouth so wide it had to hurt a little after awhile, seemingly just happy to be around his sister. Danny had always thought Renn was special, had always looked up to her and loved her. She listened to him when he talked, really listened, even when he got off on his rambling side-tangents. He flushed with pride and happiness, unable to help it, when she praised him and agreed with his choices. It wasn't that big of a deal, really, but... it just felt nice, to be able to help her even in this small way.

Danny scooted closer to her side as Renn pulled her sketchbook nearer and flicked through the pages to the one she was after, wanting to get a better look at the one she held up. His eyes lit immediately, his head already nodding in agreement. "That's perfect! Wow!" Danny said eagerly. His lips curved, causing small crinkles at the corner of his eyes. "Very kingly, I think."

Danny laughed at Renn's comment about Flynn, nodding again. "That's going to be a trial, I'm sure. Maybe..." Danny hesitated a second, though he wasn't sure exactly why. "Maybe we could do a family dinner sometime soon, like we used to? I've been missing you all a lot, it seems like we're all so busy lately!" He grinned then, quick to add. "Don't tell Dylan I said that though!"

Sol's deep, slightly rusty-sounding purr filled the room at Renn's affectionate scratch, his mouth falling open in an easy grin. Danny rolled his eyes exaggeratedly, sprawling out on the floor.

"That's what I keep trying to tell him!" Danny exclaimed. "Yesterday I caught him trying to eat the pie I was bringing to Khasekhemwy!"

"I was not!" Solarius said defensively, and just a hair too quickly. "I was just... inspecting it! Yeah, that's it! Like, what if there was a bug or something? Do you want to be the kid who gave a god a bug-infested pie?"

Danny glowered at him, choosing not to dignify that comment with a response. Sol, of course, chose to take that as a sign he'd won their little disagreement and looked quite pleased with himself. Danny grinned and nodded eagerly at Renn's comment about him being able to patch her up if need be, though he hoped he wouldn't ever have to. He didn't like the idea of anyone he cared for being hurt, especially not Renn.

While Renn reviewed his carefully done paper, Danny noticed one of her sketches had become stuck to his midsection from where he sprawled on the floor. He absently pulled it away and glanced at it, doing a double-take. It looked like... Danny frowned thoughtfully. How did Renn know Felix? But this Felix was different, more like... But no, that was impossible! His mouth opened, a question only half-formed, then shut again when Renn spoke. He thought about it for a second, then grinned.

"I never noticed that! Do you think mom and dad did it on purpose, or by accident?" he asked, his eyes bright and curious. Slowly, but surely, he was starting to feel better about talking about their parents, their father in particular. "My friend Jesse from the academy says everyone in her family has a name that starts with J, I always thought it was kinda cool."

Danny saw the pain, even as hard as Renn tried to hide it, and instantly regretted... whatever it was that he'd done to hurt her. He didn't really understand what was wrong, or why she was suddenly tearing up, but he knew he'd do anything - anything at all - to make her stop. She spoke again and Danny nodded instantly, not even hesitating to agree with her small request. Whatever it took, whatever she needed, he'd do it.

"I could do that! I think that'd be real special, a nice touch. I can work on them now if you want!" he was already on his feet, already ready to dash for his own sketchbook, when he noticed he was still holding the sketch in his hand.

"Renn? Who... who is this?" Danny asked hesitantly, worried he'd upset his sister even further but unable to keep himself from asking. He held it out to her, confusion written on his face. "I met someone who looks just like this on the beach, he... Felix, that's what his name is, was nice and he... listened about all the stuff lately. And there was a cheetah, Duma. But he's different in this sketch... And I didn't know you knew him?"
