Vesti
Vesti hated the Ocean, but she never minded looking at it. Sometimes, it was what she did at night, watch the moon from the safety of the empty sands. The way it played with the waves was a different way of calm. Yet underneath it, Vesti knew the dangers. It had never let her go, not truly. She had accepted the lifeless prison of Salem long ago. She’d thought it hell once, and Badr a demon. Now, though, she was grateful. The desert island had made her strong.
She wasn’t born of the races of the desert, but she was much like them now. Maybe it was the toughness of the morgan in her, or it was just her will power. Either way, it was every bit her home.
Hmm… I guess we won’t be moon gazing alone tonight, the Voice commented, as she rounded the last hill and spotted Orhan on the verge of it. Too bad. I was so enjoying our every two week conversation. Vesti rolled her eyes and let out a gentle call. Vesti, please, shutting me out does no one any good. I’m not shutting you out. I’m putting you on mute. I haven’t talked with Orhan in weeks. Yes, yes. He’s so much more important. He’s not in my head. Exactly my point. She pointedly ignored the Voice.
She approached, but her legs froze up as she neared the waters. She stopped quite a ways back, far from the tideline. She gulped and took a few more steps back.
“Orhan,” She called. She shifted nervously. The last time she had been this close to the waters she had been seeing Grai and Kel off. Knowing all too well it would be the last time she likely saw them. Kel had been all but blind, and Grai had been too young to be trusted. But Vesti had known she had to let them go. In any event, she was not comfortable this close to the water.
Hopefully, Orhan would come further up the beach.
of course i was afraid but i wasn't going to let fear stop me
