The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

shivershade
your strength is just an accident owed to the weakness of others

Alone.

It was clear that this female was alone, the female whose scent Shivershade was currently tracking. Nares flared to suck in her scent deeper while the faint scent of copper tainted it. Nothing like the wash of blood from a large kill but that didn't matter. Shade was rather hungry to be honest and rather lazy at the moment. It would be a simply matter of flushing out some fresh game from the woods nearby but that was just too easy. No, he liked to keep life a bit on the dangerous side. It always left him with a heady rush of desire and power when he could find others who might be persuaded to give up their meals in exchange for safety. Call it barbarian if you must, but at least he wasn't out killing wolves. A good trouncing always helped settle a dispute and it wasn't as if Shade had ever taken to the term gentleman.

So he tracks the female with his ears spinning back and to the sides as he presses into the caverns, his chocolate eyes with the yellow rims peering keenly into the shadowed rock walls ahead. It smelled musty in the caverns with the faint scent of rot. Many wolves had brought their meals here to consume and left the tidbits for the scavengers or the natural degredation of the world. Death always left a mark on the world somewhere, clear as the scent that clung to the place.

His body melds into the shadows, broken up by stray bits of sunlight that peek through gaps in the ceiling or walls to lighten the darkness. Chocolate fur, thick, long, and shaggy coats his body except the bits of tan on him. Light tan crawls up his entire right hind leg, tapering out at his hips, and it matches the tan on his forelegs though it tapers off at his paw on his left front and at his knee point on his right front. It also brightens the tips of his ears and the ends of his cheek fur, clear definers of who he is.

Shade has learned tricks to moving stealthily and he soon catches sight of the black and white female ahead as she noses at the corpses before her. His ears are pricked, his hackles raised against the base of his skull as she speaks. Friends? Was the witch talking to her dead food? His eyes narrow incredulously at her as he sniffs again but there is no other fresh scent here, none other that she could be speaking to, and he jerks his head slightly to shake away such thoughts. Well clearly she was a bit nutters, she had not eaten either of the three things before her and as she stares at them Shade bares his teeth. What a waste... or not. A slow smile eases its way onto his tapered maw as he walks forward now, no longer hiding his presence.

Shivershade does not worry about her - she is small and even if she is fierce it would only drive his need. So he walks straight up to her and places one massive paw on the dead bird, claws digging into the ruffled feathers as he stares into Achly's pinked eyes. "They have not gone anywhere yet but certainly my belly would appreciate them more than your nose would," he says blithely, tail raised as he looks down at her, waiting to see if she will acquiesce to his sublime demand for her food - or friends.
