At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

If I Look Back I am Lost

_________________________________________________________________________

The gray femme was no stranger to sorrow and despair. She had experienced more than her fair share of it during her lifetime, and she was good at recognizing when others were in a fragile state, like the one she had been in when she had lost her entire family. When she heard the cry of a lupine she could tell instantly that it was the sound of someone suffering. Not in physical pain, that was a different type of pain, an easier pain. For those that had not felt true emotional turmoil it might sound strange to say that she would father experience terrible physical pain than ever have to go through the emotional pain that had plagued her for so long, and often still did. But one would not understand that unless they had felt the extreme pain of utter despair. And now Daenerys could tell that someone else was feeling just that, and without a second thought she ran to them.

When she heard the cry she did not realize it was the cry of one in her own pack, and she was all the more glad that she had gone to their aid when she realized it was Rodan. Her instincts kicked in when she saw how much he was hurting, and she approached him, embraced him, held him. She would do whatever was necessary to help ease the pain that he was feeling, even though she knew first hand that it was often impossible to ease such pain. When Daenerys approached him she saw a stoic and hard mask on his face, one that showed no emotion, showed no pain. But she knew it was a façade. After hearing his howl she knew that he was not okay, that he was hurting and needed a friend. And she would do her best to be that friend for him. Rodan looked Dany over, as if remembering who she was, and then a flicker of pain washed over his features, and she cocked her head in confusion, wondering why her face would bring more pain to him. The two had not spoken much, had not bonded before, but she wanted to be there for him all the same, but she did not understand why she would cause him more pain. But she did not ask yet. If he wanted to tell her the thoughts running through his head then he would share.

When Daenerys first asked if he was alright, already knowing the answer to her own question, he nodded his head yes at first, but she just looked at him and could tell he was lying. After a moment he changed and shook his head no, admitting that there was something going on. When she first reached over to embrace him he stiffened, and she wondered if it would make things worse trying to show him physical comforts. When he eventually leaned into her she breathed a sigh of release and pulled him closer, wrapping her head around him, pulling him into her. After a moment she felt him relax into her, and silent sobs began to rack his body. She knew that no words would fix this, so she remained silent, waiting until he was ready to tell her what had happened, if he was willing to tell her. Until then she continued to hold him, her plume reaching around to stroke his back in a comforting gesture.

When Rodan had let out all he could, the brute backed away from her, and she didn’t follow him or try to force herself upon him, hazel orbs looking at him with concern. He had the emotionless mask back on his features, trying to hide the pain that was still there. “Kahn is dead.” The words shocked Dany into silence before he continued, panic beginning to show in the ivory brute, "Kahn is dead and I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do!" She was not sure what to do either, but she knew she had to do something. She could not just stand there staring at him like a fool. Tears had welled up in her orbs as well at his words. Though she did not know Kahn well, nowhere near as well as Rodan, he was a member of her pack, was what she considered family. And it hurt to lose someone. ”Rodan, I am so sorry. I know how hard this is, believe me I do. I lost my entire family so I understand how difficult it is to lose someone. But you are strong. Kahn taught you well and you will survive this. His memory and spirit will live on within you.” She approached him again, though not embracing him as she had before unless he reached out to her. Dany sat down close to him, reaching out with her tail to let him know that she was here. ”I, and the rest of SawTooth, will mourn his loss with you and will be here to help you get through this. I promise, this is not the end of the world, even though it may seem to be for you, but I promise, as hard as this is, you will survive this.” The femme did not know what else to say, did not know if there were other words to say. So she sat in silence, by his side, willing to do whatever he may need to help make this easier for him.
