Mom had left. She just picked up and left one day, taking my sister with her. I don't know where she is or if she will ever come back, but I do know that I am now alone because she left me. Father never came around and now she was gone, I had no one but the pack, but even they seemed to avoid me. So i'd spend my days exploring, going on adventures, and doing fun things. I was a year old now so I could take care of myself even without mom. There may be something wrong with me, something that drove my family away, but I could survive. I made sure I stayed in or near the pack, and when I got hungry I went out and caught strange little red creatures with claws and ate them all up. One thing I would never get used to was the emptiness of the den, how cold it felt at night without the warmth of mommy and sister next to me.
I walked along the sandy beach, feeling the cold ocean water upon my paws as I tried to find a cool way to spend with summer afternoon. It was very hot and I had a super thick pelt of fur like daddy, meaning I was very hot. But I couldn't let myself be bored in the nice cool den, I wanted to go out and explore, see if I could see anything new. I hadn't made any new friends in a while, not since that one pretty female who was all hurt when I wandered far from home. That was back when mommy was still around, not that she was much to stop me from doing such things like she normally would have in her strange way of moving her mouth like all the other wolves. I couldn't tell if it was some secret code that they did to communicate, all I knew was that it was weird and I didn't understand it. Maybe because I was broken?
There was no way I ever would have heard anyone come up behind me. The only way I can tell if someone is there is if I smell them, feel them, or see them. Wolves were always sneaking up on me, but nobody ever hurt me, they pretty much just ignored me. I tried to look around a lot so nobody snuck up on me and scared me! but I tended to get distracted easily, like right now. There were some strange grey creatures not far out in the water swimming and jumping around. I had never seen them before and I was honestly quite amazed. I wanted to go out and get a closer look at them, but I knew if I tried the water would just pull me back to the sand, so I ran to a rock and hopped up in an attempt to get a closer look.
I stared out over the sea, tail wagging behind me. I was alone, just as I always was anymore.
