Helen, since you are dismissing one of the only groups doing serious research, you should do so with facts. Are you aware that a size comparison test was done at that site you are speaking of? With cones? We do those tests out here. Well they even put a housecat at the same spot for comparison. Guess what? It was NOT a housecat, it was a cougar. I assume you were not aware of that evidence, or maybe have chosen to ignore it. We did the same test on a photo and site in Spencer, MA after a witness photographed a large cat retreating with a poor cell phone at a distance. We were able to determine the witness's size and description were accurate. But we only got the butt view of the cat. Yes, a short distance from the quabbin. But wait, A Phd Wildlife Biologist also observed one in the next town over!! He MUST be mistaken! Witnesses are unreliable you insist! Thus far, the witnesses are doing better than Mass Wildlife. But oh WAIT, one of their retired photographers ALSO SAW ONE in that same area!!
