After a night of dreams that were somehow both comforting and saddening, Birch felt the need to take full advantage of her day off. She and the baby - somehow she already always thought of herself as two people, even though her child was nothing more than a gentle wiggle at her center on occasion - set out to make their rounds, visiting with a few of the friends she'd made at the Commune. Though many of them - those who were already parents in particular - had probably guessed the reason for her recent withdrawal and the roomier clothing she now favored, none had made a point to push her about it. They knew she would tell them when the time was right and since Jacopo, who was undoubtedly the child's father, had been away on a project for the castle's gardens and probably had not yet been told himself, they were content to wait. Birch appreciated their self-control, even when their knowing smiles brought out a grin of her own.

It was while she was on her way from Amber's house back to her own cottage that she found herself smiling vacantly up at a bright blue sky. She'd caught herself doing this more and more often lately, getting lost in her own little world, and had only just given herself a small shake when she spotted something from the corner of her eye. The sun's rays had fallen just perfectly, landing on something metal in the tree. Frowning curiously, Birch drifted nearer to the tree in question, letting out a small gasp of surprise as a perfectly timed breeze knocked the item - a jar - gently from its cradle of branches to land perfectly in her outstretched hands.

Birch blinked down at the strange jar, which was filled with a soft silver smoke. Now and then bright glitters of gold would flash, illuminated by the shining sun. It looked somewhat similar to the jar Torram had brought home with him just recently, the jar that had led him to another of the rune stones. Birch bit her lower lip, temptation making her fingertips tingle, but managed to restrain herself. Torram had said the jar had knocked him flat on his back for a time, and it probably wasn't the best idea to do the same in the middle of the road, and definitely not with Baby to worry about. So she kept the jar tucked beneath her elbow until she got home, and sat herself down on the couch. There was a part of her that told her she ought to wait for Torram, but... It'd been awhile since she'd dared to go on an adventure, and she really was getting rather bored...

Before she could talk herself out of it, the jar was in her hands and the lid was off... And she was looking at a cloaked figure lurking down by the docks, someone who's covert looks over their shoulder and unusual gait were somehow familiar. It hit her as the figure half-turned, spotting a few of the realm's guards behind him, and set off at a lope, and dream-Birch (or whomever she was) let out a laugh. Sunlight hit the man's face for a fraction of a second, confirming what she'd already guessed: Turic. As if it had been waiting for her to recognize him, the angle shifted from behind the man to in front of him, then zoomed in until her focus was consumed by his necklace. A necklace, it just so happened, made from what could only be another of the strange rune stones!

Birch came to herself with a small gasp of surprise, blinking her eyes against the suddenly too-bright sunlight. Scrawling a hurried note for Torram, who had become quite the worrywart ever since he and Danny had figured out she was pregnant, Birch grabbed a light jacket and went in search of her rune stone.

She found the leper in his favorite hidey-hole, the tavern down on the docks that was a favorite with the rougher crowd. He'd been settled in his spot, a table near the rear exit that allowed him to stay mostly unnoticed while simultaneously seeing everything. Like many of the guards, Birch had managed to make more than a few contacts amongst such shady individuals - usually by letting a minor offense slide in return for information - and was able to set up an insurance policy after just a quick word to the right individual. Then, bold as brass, she sauntered right up to Turic's table.
