When she spoke, Starshade's broad ears flickered forward, her head nodding subtly in recognition. She should have expected that the pack might be unwilling to accommodate those merely passing by. It only made sense, after all. Even if she provided services across the coming winter, they would likely not be enough to make up for the use of resources and energy wasted providing them. For some moments, she remained in thought, pondering her options (or what few options she had, at least.) The idea of staying within a pack environment permanently seemed daunting, although she knew within herself that the word permanent seldom meant what it used to. She could still leave, though her honor dictated that she would not for quite some time she imagined. Finally, after several moments of quiet thought, she breathed out with a response, returning her utmost attention to Jaidah. "I can hunt, certainly. I can provide my aid in the digging of dens and maintaining the integrity of the pack's boundaries. Children, too, I can teach." She paused for a moment, watching for any indication that she might have offered the right kind of answer. Surely, they'd want to know what she could do for them before their Queen let her know what they could do for her. Provide food and shelter, yes, but what else made up this pack? She looked inquisitive, though an ear twisted back as she caught wind of several foot steps rising nearby. Instinctively, Starshade moved aside, giving the stranger space as he moved towards the pair and spoke. She eyed him wearily for a second, passing a glance back to Jaidah to evaluate her response to the sudden arrival. One had to be careful with the approach of winter, after all. However, he seemed polite enough. He merely asked a question, a reasonable one at that. "Yes, I wonder such a thing too. This pack is new, and I wonder what it is you hope to gain in your following." She let her lips fall back into a small smile, meaning no harm with her question. Her ears once more rose in curiosity, her head tilted ever so slightly as she awaited a response. She had already made her mind up, being unwilling to risk her luck in a larger, already established pack. Still, she wanted to be aware of just how much would be expected from her and just where she would fall into line. |
