Seeing as Nan's reaction was rather a lot like the reaction she'd gotten from most familiars, Grim saw nothing wrong with the bear's escape attempt. Really, the only one who'd put up with her for long was Prince Tristan's Celidon and her dear friend Danny's Solarius. Of course, since Sol the tiger also enjoyed eating bugs and rolling in things, so his opinion on such things probably didn't rank very highly. Once it seemed that Grim's attention had (temporarily) shifted from the bear to Madeline, Gisli decided it would be alright to release her little monster before flattening the back of her shirt with a gentle paw. Grim, who was now fully invested in introductions, hardly noticed.

"A polie bear?" Grim repeated, her eyes wide and her mouth agape with awe.

"Polar, Grim," Gisli corrected absently, obviously accustomed to doing so. Though she stuck close to her girl, and eyed both Madeline and Nanook with caution, she was also alert to their surroundings; the Castle gardens were, largely, a safe place, but with so much of the staff gone to the Oasis Gis couldn't help but feel a bit... jumpy.

"POLAR?" Grim echoed, giggling as if Gisli had just said the most delightful (and ridiculous) thing she'd heard all day. "You're so silly!"

Gisli spared a second to give Maddy a long-suffering look, as if to say well, I gave it a shot. Already Grim's attention had returned to the bear, largely because of Maddy's reassurance that Nan wouldn't mind a hug. Since the bear still looked reluctant, Grim dug around in one of her pockets (she insisted that all of her clothing have at least three pockets for her treasures) and pulled out a treat wrapped in paper; she offered it to the bear along with a toothless grin. Grim had found that with most familiars, if the "LET ME SQUEEZE YOU!" approach didn't work, the "I will subtly squeeze you while you eat" approach would.

Her hand still outstretched towards Nan, Grim's attention returned to Maddy. She bobbed her head twice, then slowly repeated their names. "Nanook!" Grim repeated, enjoying the way the name slipped off her tongue. There would no doubt be a Nanook-themed song in the near future. "I like her name, and your name, lots."

When Maddy returned her salute, Grim cheered and clapped her hands eagerly. "Wow, you did that so good! Tristan says-"

"Prince Tristan, Grim," Gis corrected.

"Right, Cousin Prince Tristan," Grim said agreeably. She was vaguely related to the prince, since her adoptive mother, Ciara, was a member of the Mallos generation. At Maddy's challenge, Grim beamed and dropped into a clumsy curtsy, flaring her shirt in imitation of a dress. It wasn't perfect - with her damaged ankle she'd never quite nail it - but she made up for her difficulty with sheer enthusiasm.
