Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

Yin

She owed it to her son to give him all the confidence in the world. He had been smaller than most and had struggled those first few weeks - part of her could not help but worry that it had been her that had been at fault. As such, she had promised herself to always ensure that both he and Yuki were given all that she could give. For Yuki, those needs manifested themselves as adventure and exploration, but for Ame, it was a much gentler thing. As far as she knew, he needed guidance - and not of the harsh, directive type either. Gentle nudging, reassurance. It was the least she could do as they journeyed onward.

"Ame can do anything. Ame can heal, Ame can teach, Ame can even be greater fighter than all the others if Ame thinks it will help others. This one thinks Ame should never let any other tell him otherwise, yes?"

Her attention had focused in on him as she spoke, her eyes hard with a seriousness seldom seen within her. After all, she had never really felt emotions such as anger or dislike but, of all the things in the world, she knew she disliked the idea of anybody else ever discouraging her children, or Meryl. Or any other, really. Discouragement was a scourge, and it ruined the futures are far too many. It was strange, she had to admit, that such realizations seemed to come about only when she had grown to fear them for her own children. She had always known it to be wrong and yet, it had always been so difficult to put into words. Now, she had context. She had a true understanding.

Despite their path having been the shorter option, it still took them quite some time to arrive at Diveen's border. The northern border fringed the deeper forest of Enocra, and she began to lead Ame up a gentle slope that reached up to the top of Diveen's ravine. The path was easy enough to navigate though the moisture from winter had dislodged several larger stones, one of which Yin's paw slipped on, sending it to thumping down the hillside. She grinned sheepishly as she watched it, ensuring Ame had not been in its line of fire. Once it came to a halt, she began once more on their short journey. The hill lead rather quickly to a scraggly patch of trees - or rather, shrubs really - that watched out across the woodlands. It was a pleasant spot, though the spot itself did not look too grand. However, its view was immaculate. The sky seemed to stretch out forever, a brilliant blue splattered with smeared clouds.

She breathed a sigh of joy when they finally came to a stop atop their little lookout. She smiled down at Ame before settling in to be seated, crouching a little so that she might be obscured by the vegetation. She motioned for Ame to follow her lead before wriggling forward, peering through the sparse branches as they moved some several feet from their initial point. Now, they faced more completely east. There, the forest became sparser as it begun to sink down in the flat fields.

"Places like this are... very important, Ame. See?" She tilted her muzzle forward to where the grass began to grow taller at the base of trees; there, it rustled ever so slightly. "It is where the others are most safe. They can hide here. It also means it is where they are least safe."

Even an inexperienced hunter could tell how advantageous the spot might have been. It allowed enough room for sprinting to take place, along with rapid turns. However, it also gave the rabbits and foxes enough room to hide completely, shuffling in and out of fallen trees and burrows. As they watched, one of the tufts of tall grass gave way - from it, a dark little rabbit hopped, evidently young. It seemed to almost bask in the daylight, nibbling away at roots of the grass. Yin could not help but grin, flashing a toothy smile to Ame.

"When this one can see young ones, this one knows things are well. If Ame could not see young ones, what does Ame think happened? Where did they go? Why might it be bad?"

She asked him quietly, her head falling into a gentle tilt. Though the questions were designed to really make him think - and in a new way at that - she spoke them pleasantly, full of kindness. No answer would be wrong, after all. This was all about learning, not knowing yet.
