The only sounds that can be heard are the crashing waves not too far off. No howls answer his own. No one comes for him for some time. Luk begins to think the pack is abandoned, but that thought is thrown almost as quickly as it came. The scent of other wolves is still strong and fresh. They are here. Perhaps they are watching him, testing him. Well, he was ready. Still but a child growing into his large paws, Luk looks like any other awkward teen. But he tries to stand tall and proud. His tail his held high and his ears are forward. They weren’t going to catch him off guard. A few more minutes past and the pup was growing impatient. His tail thumped rhythmically on the moist ground until, at last, a wolf appeared. He didn’t growl or sneer, but he wasn’t overly pleasant either. He was neutral and so Luk was likewise with him. He asked a simple question that should have been easy to answer and it would have been had Eden shown up a few seconds later. He was still just as tall and intimidating as the child remembered him all those moons ago in the valley. Bright eyes watched him carefully and Luk felt all his nerves leave him. His tail lowered and almost tucked under his body. He was a child again, feeble and alone. Eden spoke, his deep voice rumbling. So he did remember Luk! That was a good sign at least and it brought a bit of that confidence back. A small wag of his tail reminded the bright boy his purpose and of the question that had been asked. ”Mine name is Luk and I have left Taviora to join your ranks. I still want to learn from you and I feel I am ready now more than ever,” he said, his bi-colored eyes looked directly into Eden’s for a brief moment before he lowered them again. The situation could change at this point. He had been rather bold to all but demand that Eden become his mentor, just like he had done in the valley. It was a selfish reason to join a back but the boy had nowhere else to go. He waited, knowing all too well that he could be chased away, wondering what his future had in store for him. |
