They are a quiet lot, the wolves of Glorall. At least, some seem content to merely fade into the forest. It is those that are not content with such smallness that I seek out and find myself enjoying. Already, the strange male Underidge has made him invaluable. He is a peculiar creature but he works, and he works well. I have seen just how ruthless he can be and though he has much to learn, I see a good outlook for him. It is much the same with Alcmene. She is still young, but she is already capable. The seal had been a peculiar challenge for her and though some had returned injured, I cannot blame her entirely for their failures. However, there is one particular wolf I have not had the opportunity to investigate. He is a busy creature. He moves about the pack seemingly ceaselessly. It is a curious thing and for that reason, I have endeavored to find him alone. He is up to something, and I wish to know just what that is. Of course, I am not petulant. Rather, I will find him in due time lest he find me first. There are other matters to attend to. Achlys has been weakened, and she is incapable of finding herself food. It goes against my morals, perhaps, to tend to her so diligently yet, I feel that I must. By taking the position of a king, it means I must care for those beneath me in whatever ways I must. Besides, I am not fond of the idea of her dying. And so, that is where I am today. I stand by the den as patiently as possible, several rats thrown towards the den's mouth. I can hear her within the darkness, assuredly asleep, yet I cannot afford to leave quite yet. It would be most annoying if a fox was to take the spoils. I must wait until she or the children take them all. One by one, tiny mouths rise to take them into the darkness. They do not understand that they are making me late, and it is almost frustrating in truth. Finally, the last is gone and without a second glance, I am off towards the call. Seemingly enough, he has taken it upon himself to find me - or at least, initiate my quest for him. Perhaps he wanted me to be more punctual and yet, he had surely seen the river of blood that pooled beneath Achlys as he tended to her several weeks ago. I do not speak, initially, when I find him. Rather, I approach in the most open manner I can. Straight on, eyes level with his and body as rested as possible. My tail stands level with my back, a simple reminder of our power dynamics though... I am trying to look approachable, I suppose. I merely observe him for several seconds before I finally decide to speak, a brow risen in curiosity once more. "You have been... busy." A simple observation but surely enough to open the gateways of communication. I hope his business has not been in vain. It is the ambitious and capable that we need in this world, after all. |
