Perhaps changed most of all out of all of the packs is this place. It was stripped out of its forested home and now instead lays at the edge of an ocean. The vast sparkling eternity of the water lays to the south of the land, while the rest of the land is made of rocky outjuttings. Gone are the trees, and all that remains for greenery are the short shrubs that dot the paths in the rock, and the moss that grows thanks to the spray of the waves. Further toward the shore, barnacles are a plenty, and look to cut the pads of those who slip on the wet surface. These extend out into the water itself, and the tough land has multiple caverns scraped into it, providing ample dens for the wolves that live there. Depending on the tide, however, the lower caverns may flood, and the vicious swirling water may prove to be dangerous as there is a strong undertide ready to pull unsuspecting swimmers to their doom. Even the tide itself is powerful enough to push intruders against one cliff or another. The ocean does provide, however, plenty of food for those who brave the waters - there are many breeds of seals and sea lions, though the males that protect each of these are vicious and territorial. There are also turtles that come ashore to breed and to lay their eggs - both the adults and the eggs themselves can provide sustenance to the wolves. But they must take care - the water is deep enough to allow sharks to come to shore from the depths below. Those unwilling to venture the waves or wet their paws with the moist sand of the shore can find snakes and hares in the rocky outcroppings, but they must beware the Komodo dragon and other monitor lizards that perch upon the shore - they are swift and move in groups, not to mention they carry venom in their bite that causes immense pain, paralysis, and prevents blood clotting. This is not the land for the weak of heart or the weak at all really. This is Uyaraut - ‘The Diamond in the Rough’.

What is Dead May Never Die

Family. Duty. Honor.

The brute was still in shock about what had happened. So much had gone on recently, his family had grown but he had also felt the pains of loss, again. The brute thought that he had gotten over his family’s death, and that he had been able to move on from what had happened. But when the demons of his past came back it was clear that this was not the case. The brute’s paws dragged as he slowly walked through the trees of the territory that he had been put in charge of. When he thought about it, he still wondered what others had seen in him that made them trust him enough to lead the pack, though he knew he was capable. The confidence he had been lacking when he first became alpha was growing as time went on and his pack grew and the lupines in it remained faithful.

And just when everything seemed to be going well, a kalak came to his borders, bearing the news of his sister, who not only was alive but was in fact about to die. Despite his efforts he had not been able to make it to her in time to see her before she died, for real this time. Summer thought she had already perished when she was younger, but apparently she had escaped from the wars that had killed their mother and father. She had died birthing three pups, one of which had come to him recently. Fear had made the smoky brute flee the scene of her death without a backwards glance at the form of his dead sisters or the pups she had birthed. The same kalak had the nerve to come back into his territory, but this time with different reasons. The female, known as Shae, thought that he should raise one of his sister’s young, when his impression had been that she would be bringing all three to him. The brute needed to have a word with Shae to determine why she thought she should be able to decide where his family went in this world without his permission.

And despite all that, something worse had happened. The brute found out that another one of his siblings was still alive, Grey Wind. The older, larger brute was the one who had been raised to take over for their father as alpha, but that clearly was not to be in store. When Summer grew up with Grey Wind, he always looked up to him, how strong he was, but also how kind and understanding. The older brute was a lot like what Summer was now, always looking to help those that needed it, the weak and sick and injured. But the biggest thing that Summer liked about his older brother, was how just he was. He would never hurt another being that did not entirely deserve it, and even then he did not want to hurt others. He was a lot like their father in that sense. And so when the alpha saw his brother with the alpha of Abendrot, he did not understand what had happened.

Summer could not understand what had happened to Grey Wind to make him go to a pack that was known for killing and torturing other beings, just for their own enjoyment. In a way he felt like he failed his family that he had not been there to help his brother through whatever horrors he had gone through to make him turn into the beast that he must be to in the ranks of Abendrot. A whine escaped from his throat as he thought of something happening that could change Grey Wind so dramatically, and he had no idea what he was supposed to do now. And he felt like he had no one to talk to about this particular issue, despite having a close friend within the borders.

The smoky colored brute was caught up in his own thoughts of unease and restlessness when he caught a familiar scent, Amalthea. He was surprised that the femme had stayed in the pack, seeming to be so afraid of all the lupines she encountered, but he was happy that she did so. He wanted to help her, make her feel safe and a part of the family if she could grow to trust him and the pack. But he did not know if that was going to be possible, but he would not give up on her and leave her alone to fend for herself. AS he followed her scent from what he assumed was her den he picked up on the fact that something was not right, she was distressed. His pillars carried him faster through the trees to find her, eyes tight shut as if to hide from the world. He was sure that he heard his quick approach, but in case she was unaware of his approach he spoke softly, but loud enough for her to hear. ”Amalthea?”

The brute knew that it was, her scent was unique and one that he would not forget. He approached her slowly, pawsteps light as he came closer to her form. ”Amalthea, what’s wrong? Is there anything I can do for you?” He still was not sure if touch was something she was okay with if the femme did not initiate it herself, so the brute stayed far enough out of her space that he was not touching her, but he was now close to her. His smoky gray fur was barely far enough away to not be touching her white pelt as he lay down next to her form, waiting anxiously to see if she would speak to him.
