Theoden was finding it quite enjoyable, being in the company of another person who was younger than 45. The lad was certainly doing his best at the job and had a bit of an arrogance to him. Theo didn't mind, he had run the family's inn at the age of 16 and had then thought no man could do better. That is to say, he didn't think of this lad as being cocky but found Luke to be self-assured and comfortable with all the dogs. That said more to Theoden than any words.

"It;s alright, Luke. I'm sure you've made a fine choice here." With that, Theoden crouched down and wedged his hands in between the happy licks of the little puppy and the older dog. He raised his hand to Indy, and shook the extended paw firmly. Then he let Indy sniff him from head to toe. When it seemed both the silver dog was satisfied, Theoden stood up, mindful of Sasha's antics. Last thing she needed was a broken toe to go with her one-of-a-kind swollen nose.

"I believe Indy is a breed, similar to one they call the "grey ghost." Theoden smiled warmly at Luke. "A good hunting dog, if I recall. I knew a family who swore by them. You know your stuff, Luke."

Theoden asked for a moment alone with the silver gentleman. He proceeded then, to check Indy over, a quick health inspection. All the while he talked in low whispers with Indy. The dog was extremely patient, shifting here and there as if anticipating where Theoden's hands would go next. He wondered how long ago Indy's master had died and thought it only right that Indy get a fresh chance at life. The dog was indeed, as Luke has said, well-bred. With clean teeth, bright eyes and clearly intelligent. He was surprisingly tolerant too, Theoden had noted how the dog had sat through Sasha's thorough greeting.

"Well then fellow, what say we take off and leave these noisy kennels behind?" Theoden scratched behind a flopping ear and then waved at Luke.

"This'll be a good match, I can feel it. I'm happy to bring Little Indian with me. I do say though, he needs a new name for his fresh start. Indigo, I suppose. Indigo." And Theoden looked with a giddy smile at his new companion. Then it occurred to him, there was one last order of business.

"How does the er, the payment work then? I suppose I don't expect something for nothing as it were." Theoden raised an eyebrow and rubbed at the back of his neck. He had brought a bit of change with the intent to barter, but now that he really thought of it he doubted he could afford a dog of pure breed, already trained and ready to go.

Under a spreading chestnut tree
The village smithy stands:
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.
Longfellow
