She had heard the challenge and had decidedly, and promptly, relocated herself towards the outer regions of the territory. She had headed in the opposite direction of the challenger's call, hesitant to promise herself to the mainland while such a conflict took place. After all, she had become accustomed to the protection and services of the current leader and, surprisingly even to her, a form of loyalty had flourished within her. It was not as if she had a doubt that their leader was capable, it was simply an instinctive response to such a threat. In fact, she had taken to patrolling the opposite border during such a time. She had scoured the outskirts in search of any intruders that had desired to slip in while their alpha was preoccupied and yet, she had found none. It had been good news to her, though she had grown increasingly agitated at the prospect of potentially being evicted from the plains. She had taken refuge during the storm for a short time; she had never grown to fear such a thing, not entirely at least. When she had been in the north, storms had been an ever present threat that they had simply needed to continue through. Her fur was thick and waterproof; what more did she need? Still, the option had been pleasant and it had distracted her thoughts from the ongoing threat. Through the storm, however, she had heard the call of their leader, the female's voice one Starshade had grown accustomed to. She listened to it eagerly, her head tilted and ears pressed forward intently. It was only when she had registered the victory in the female's voice that she responded; she yipped into the sky, almost like a coyote, an explosive choir of shrill howls that broke through the storm's turmoil. With that, she had taken off across the expanse of Asteraia, her speed unprecedented at such a time. The plains had allowed her to hone such a skill and she used it with such eagerness as she plowed through the rain and grass; she navigated with haste, having arrived just as the others had settled into place. She had, naturally, fallen into a much slower pace then, releasing a whine of greeting as she slipped into the group of wolves. She had a natural inkling to stick close to those that she knew to be unlike their male leader; she had swung around so that she now came beside Galileo, her eyes moving across their queen as she took her place. She had received injuries and though Starshade twitched in eagerness to inspect their leader, she restrained herself. Instead, she merely watched onward, her fox-like tail waving behind her as she prepared herself to offer whatever services she could. Tonight, she knew she'd be on the borders. She'd ensure no other threat dared enter their abode. |
