What a week.
Tired paws carry her as she ponders on what life had held in store for her this week. She had fallen face first into an icy creek. A bear or a cougar or something had almost taken off her tail (though the hair was growing back nicely). She had made a fool of herself out on the lake when the ice cracked (though, after the creek incident, it was totally understandable). Not to mention when she fell off that rock on the crags right in front of another wolf! She was afraid she was making a name for herself, and it probably wasn’t good. Oh well, not much she could do about it now. Except maybe hide where none of those things had happened, yep that sounded like a good idea.
For about the umpteenth time she wished she was more like her brother. Or her sister. Her sister was entirely too graceful to have gone for an unintentional swim or fall off a rock. Her brother would have chased off whatever bit her tail! But no, she was simply Vaya. The simple, average one of the bunch. She may have been kicked out of her pack, but it seemed she couldn’t much change her status in life. So it was lost in these thoughts she found herself in the grotto. Somewhat close to the crags, where she had fallen off the rock, but not so close that she felt forced to dwell on it. Yes, this would do nicely.
Aware of her clumsy track record, she is careful. Each footstep is carefully planned, leading her around in front of what seemed an extensive cave system. Finally she comes across one that seems perfect. Not too large, not too small. It didn’t seem to smell of any other wolves, or worse. With a contented sigh, she paces in to see how deep it goes.
Nope nopenopenope.
It was dark in there! Mindful of the fact that so far her luck was holding, she returned to the cave mouth. It is there she sits, tucking her tail around her paws to keep them warm from the biting air. This would be an acceptable place to spend the night. Honey brown eyes watch the sun as it sinks slowly to the horizon, washing her in sunset colours that made her own stand out. Perhaps she even looked on the better side of average? Even if just for a moment… Well, she liked to think it was possible. A sigh leaves her lips as her eyes close. She hadn’t done anything remotely embarrassing today, and the day was almost done.
She was sure nothing could wreck it now.
