I heard a screech overhead and turned my eyes upwards to see a black thing flying away from the sky above me. I was watching it go, panting after my frolic with the pretty thing, when I heard something close by. It sounded like Mom when she wanted Athena and I to come and drink. Aww! Had she come back already to spoil my fun? I bounded over the tall grass towards the sound and saw something else laying low close by. I skidded to a halt and stared at it curiously for a moment, slowly moving forward. Then I could see her, a wolf like me but she was so much bigger, just like Mom. I stopped and started to growl, fluffing up my fuzzy fur so much that the silver under hairs were showing brightly in the sunlight. I thought I sounded threatening as I barred my tiny milk teeth at her… until I saw what was in her mouth.
At once, I forgot about looking mean and ran forward to examine the colorful thing again. ”Hey, you caught it! I wanted to do that.” I reach forward and sniff it, watching as it doesn’t move anymore. The thing doesn’t seem as colorful and pretty as it did when it was flapping in the sun. Cocking my head to the side, I pawed at it and barked loudly, my tail wagging. I did this to Athena to tell her I wanted to play so the color thing was going to know I wanted to play with it again. But it still didn’t move. I looked up at the other wolf and whined, “Why won’t it play with me? I want to see the colors again.”
I didn’t understand and I pawed at the thing again, but it remained still. Growing bored, I turned my attention to the stranger. She was pretty (of course, not as pretty as me) and she smelled like Mom but different. I moved closer to her, wanting to touch her fur which seemed so different than my own. “Hey lady, who are you anyways? I haven’t seen you around.” I haven’t seen anyone around, since this was my first time out of the den, but she didn’t have to know that. I gazed up at her with pale blue eyes, waiting for her to say something before I grew bored and started chasing her tail.
