What is a date if we are not playful and entertaining? I could never be considered a dull date - to be such would be a tarnish on my record. I cannot abide by such flaws, at least to my ego, and especially not in front of such a pretty lass. Who knew what would become of us? I thought she was rather young for my tastes but she held up her end of the conversation with amazing aplomb. It was an admirable trait in such youth that I honestly didn't see her as such in this moment. Just a pretty lady who jested with the best of us. I do preen a bit beneath her vibrant gaze, my teeth flashing in my cheesy grin, not allowing this moment to grow awkward in the least. I bark triumph at her words, my tail lifting in a bold manner.
"Only as dashing as you are beautiful, my dear," I state slyly, winking at her.
There is a timid sort of innocence to her. Where I show off my fine physical attributes - I was a catch after all, IF someone could catch me - she seems to enjoy hers in a more subdued manner. That was youth for you, always assuming they never measured up. That their beauty was not the best in their prime. I had never had such bashful tendencies as a pup. From the beginning I had known that I was an excellent male figure. But if everyone was like me then no one would ever recognize my greatness, you realize. Still, I find it cute on her and I continue to grin as my ears prick forward to catch her words.
"Ah my heart, it breaks. It knew your name the moment I saw you but my brain interfered, Dragonfly," I say in mock drama.
"It is a fitting name for your eyes are like the eyes of your namesake, just as my color is of the color of mine. I am certain now our parents must have crossed paths somewhere."
She plays up her feature, batting her eyes, and I am pleased with her play. But what I really like is her suggestion, my own eyes lighting up with a fierce need to impress.
"Why certainly, my Dragonfly. I shall sniff us out the best meal for tonight and you can show me just how fast those legs will get you." I would help too but it would be a date for us to both show off our skills. I move towards the more wooded part of the clearing, waiting for her to come with me before I set out at a sedate pace, nose rising into the air and then pausing next to tree trunks and loose soil.
"Why have you stayed a loner, Dragonfly?" I am curious - most youth seemed interested in pack life or at least used to it. We have traveled a good distance from the clearing when I catch the fresh scent of a small band of deer. They have young with them and such tender flesh they would be. I track it now, guiding Dragonfly with the barest turn of my body if she should follow - it is likely she would pick up the scent too.
