GWAINE
Kal put on a serious face, frowning at muddy warrior. “I’m really sorry, Gwaine, but there is simply no place for you here. You missed your chance.” For a brief moment, Gwaine’s heart dropped and a mixture of hurt and disappointment flashed in his eyes. Of course, Aurora was a popular pack. He should have expected that it was full to the brim. “Oh.” He said softly. Staying a loner wouldn’t be so bad, he guessed. He’d been one until now so it wasn’t exactly a lifestyle change. It was just… well, Gwaine wanted to be part of something bigger than himself. He was a knight; he was meant to protect and serve others. As great as it was being his own man, the hessian needed a place among others. Gwaine had thought that would be here, but if Kalgalath said there was no room, he would just find somewhere else.
Even with his own mischievous personality, the brute didn’t realize the alpha was kidding until he began to laugh and Gwaine looked at him with mock offense. “I am, of course, joking, my friend. As I said before, you are always welcome here, and if it is membership in a pack you seek, I insist you take up residency in mine!” That cheeky… “Very funny. Maybe I’ll take my services elsewhere, you ever think of that?” He let out a rather unconvincing hmph, but quickly broke into a grin. “But, since you insist, I suppose I shall stay here.”
The topic changed to the twins, who Kal soon dismissed to go and continue their adventures. Again the discussion shifted, this time to women. The mottled gray looked behind him, presumably at his mate, before he motioned for Gwaine to follow him. The two stopped on a rocky cliff and the alpha sat, wrapping his tail around his paws. Gwaine did the same, facing him in a sideways sort of direction so that he could make eye contact when he wanted, but also look elsewhere lest the eye contact last too long. No wolf was comfortable with that, in his experience. “Sebring is napping - that had been our plan for the entirety of the day.” So that was her name: Sebring. Lucky lady. “Sorry for waking you up. I would’ve come tomorrow had I known.” He nodded along as Kal spoke about Vlad and Cas and Sebring. “It’s understandable that she’s tired. I could never do what women do. They are quite incredible.” Having grown up with only a mother and a sister, Gwaine had a great deal of respect for females. And yet, he was still hopeless when it came to finding one.
“But if you want to catch one, then just live your life and do not search for love.” It couldn’t be that easy for that had been exactly what the earthen titan had been doing and so far it had gotten him squat. “When you are ready, it will find you.” Perhaps that was the problem. Maybe Gwaine wasn’t ready. He looked at Kal as the brute continued. “We met when I saved her from drowning… How odd right?” The warrior raised a brow. Well well. Kal was quite the knight in shining armour. “There are a few bachelorettes here, but I must say that you will have your work cut out for you - they are strong individuals and all like sisters to me.” Gwaine nodded. Strength was certainly one of his favorite traits in others and himself. It was his nickname after all. “Don’t you dare go about breaking their hearts.” Chocolates looked to arctics and Gwaine grew serious. “I would never do such a thing.” This was true. The need to be chivalrous had been ingrained into him from a young age.
The duo’s conversation changed to Gwaine’s last inquiry. Kal smiled, their eyes meeting as he spoke, “It is going very well, in truth. Our numbers are up, and we have recently instituted a new system that allows our members to teach one another depending on their interests are in specialities.” This piqued the knight’s curiosity and his ears perked up. “In truth, only Hellene - our healer from the beginning nearly - has firmly taken hold of a position, but hope to have others fill in as time goes on. However, Magic has started a training session for the Warriors, and a newer member - Niara - has started one for spies. We have seven careers institutionalized right now - advisors, healers, hunters, Warriors, nursemaids, spies, and Liasons. You wouldn’t happen to be interested in leading any of those, now would you?” The brute winked and Gwaine smirked at him. “Well, I have been known to dabble in the art of battle and I was a knight back home… I think the Warriors will suit me nicely, though I can not attest to the merit of my teaching.”
The brutes shared a moment in silence, enjoying the time. It was nice spending time with someone like Kal - a friend - after spending a majority of his time alone. “So what have you been doing all this time? What made you come back?” Both answers were quite simple, but Gwaine didn’t have a chance to respond as someone emerged from the trees, just about falling into Kal. A whine was let loose, but cut off when the newcomer caught sight of Gwaine. The ess moved backwards quickly, “Kal… I’m… Sorry. I did not mean to interrupt your meeting.” The words were murmured and ess shook out her pelt, composing herself. “I am Chenzii by the way. I am terribly sorry for my rudeness… I have… not been myself lately.” She trailed off. Gwaine shook his head, a loose smile on his face. “Gwaine. A Pleasure to meet you, Chenzii. No need to apologize. You came for Kal, you couldn’t have known I was here.” He looked back to Kal. “Simply put, I haven’t been doing much at all. Just wandering really. I came back because…. I suppose I just need to be part of a pack where I can contribute.”
