aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

S E R A P H I N A

From the day that she had been plunged headfirst into the role of heir, Seraphina had made one promise to herself: she would never hide behind Dante. It was something that she’d done too many times in the very early days of her life. The knowledge that she could always count on her big sister to protect her had been ingrained in her young mind. But that had all changed and the firebird found herself forced to grow up. She had no Dante to cower behind, no guardian angel. She would make it so that she didn’t need that to survive. Sera would grow strong all on her own and she would stand proudly next to her big sister. She would prove to everyone, especially, herself, that she could be queen. With her disappearance came the loss of her title, but not her resolve. Sera did not retreat behind the ethiopianess, no, she held herself with as much composure as she could muster and sat in between Dante’s paws, looking straight on at the family, observing.

She noticed the growl. She noticed the smug little grin and wanted to wipe it off the prince’s little face. She heard the scoff, earning a sharp emerald glare in addition to Kalgalath’s. This Vladimir character… Sera didn’t like him. He just seemed mean and full of himself. The girl turned her attention away from him as the adults spoke, taking in their words. She looked up to Kal when he addressed her, “Seraphina, should you need anything, my boys will be happy to help you. Won’t you both?” Yes. Won’t you both? She pictured herself making a face at Vladimir, but refrained. She didn’t want to do anything that Dante would find childish. The other prince, Castiel, was much nicer. He radiated friendliness and Sera could feel the sincerity in his “Welcome home Seraphina!” She wagged, brightening up and smiling at him. “Wanna come play with me and Vlad? Unless he’s just gonna sit there and stare into the distance, then me and you can just go play!” He turned to nudge his brother and Sera nodded at Castiel, but she didn’t join him yet. Something held her back, a lack of finality and closure in this whole matter. The prince turned and spoke to Dante, “We’ll take good care of Seraphina while you’re away Ms Dante!” The firebird didn’t think she needed taking care of, but if it gave her sister peace of mind then she was all for it. In her own way, Sera wanted to protect Dante like Dante protected her.

“Thank you Castiel. Keep her out of trouble, she can be quite mischievous.” Tiny russet head and jade orbs were swiveled to face Dante, mouth open in protest. Yet the words never fell as Dante’s crown sunk to the fiery girl’s, kisses planted on both of her cheeks. “I will be back for you Seraphina. You’ll have fun while you’re here, you’ll make new friends and I think you’ll find that you will be too busy playing to miss me too much.” Seraphina highly doubted that, but she didn’t say that. It brought Dante comfort to say that and she wasn’t going to take that away from her big sister. The princess thought that this was it, that Dante had said her goodbyes and that was that. It had been easier than she thought, but then Dante spoke again and her composure started to crumble.

“I love you Seraphina.” A limb pulled the pup in close as the hushed words fell into little auds. Before she even had a chance to respond, Dante spoke again, “I’m so proud of you Seraphina.” This time, her self control shattered and Sera buried her head into Dante’s chest, tears welling up in her eyes. She didn’t want Cas and Vlad to see, especially Vlad. She didn’t want her big sister to see either, though Dante would be able to tell. Her head stayed there for a moment so that she could regain herself and dry her tears. Seraphina didn’t want her first impression in Aurora to be that she was a crybaby. She retreated from Dante’s hold on her when the embrace went limp, taking a step over the border into her new, temporary home. The queen thanked Kalgalath before giving the younger girl a smile. Sera returned it, but couldn’t hide the sadness as she watched the queen vanish into the trees, the occasional glimpse like a flicker of the flame. Emeralds watched and strained until there was truly no sight of the ess. She took a breath, making sure that she was ready for this new chapter in her life. And she decided that she was. If Dante could take on bears, she could deal with this.

“Yeah, let’s go play Castiel!” Russet bodice spun to face the ruling family, focus on the ashy prince. “We don’t need Vladimir if he’s just gonna sit there like a lump.” Seraphina ran ahead in the forest, but not before acknowledging the adults, “Thank you for letting me stay here.” She wagged at them, then charged ahead, waiting for Cas and Vlad (if he did end up following). “I haven’t been around pups my age in forever!” She barked out. The princess stopped in a little clearing, turning on her heel to face the others. “So what should we play?”
