Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Running at press paw pace was a wonderful feeling, truly amazing how fast one could really go. That, and the fact her legs were longer than quite a few wolves, but shorter than a select few. So, she could most likely out run about two thirds of all the wolves, and one third of the wolves could catch her. The stats themselves could be worse, and even though she ran the gypsies, or at least they'd had the first meeting, Amber knew that they'd need a few more. Next was to start traveling a bit more grouped up. By making the changes small and slow, it was a hope the wolves would shift into the new life without much fuss.

Weaving through a few trees, both coated on the northern side by snow, Amber slid down the embankment towards the large, wide, frozen over Aplos river. Her paws touched the solid cold floor, and part of her dearly hoped that it wasn't thawing as fast as everywhere else, or she was going into the drink. Slowing down quite a lot, the snowy white wolf carried a slow trot over the ice, careful to place her paws far apart. Too close and the weight might crack the ice, but too far and she'd slide and loose her balance. Both of these results were unwanted, and therefore, were avoided as best as possible. Next was the color of the ice and pools of water onto. If a pool was light blue, that meant the ice under it was safe to walk on, along with the ice around it, but if it was dark blue, it was best to go many feet around the spot, or if it divided the river, taking a running start. Then hope you cleared that part, didn't land too hard, and go right through.

Sadly, this is exactly what happened to Amber as she traveled. A straight line of dark blue down the middle of the river. Turning around, she sighed and trotted away a good few yards. Swinging her head around to turn back, the she-wolf began gathering speed, reaching her press paw pace feet from the dark blue line of water. Pressing off, it was almost like she was flying. Flying, maybe, but not nearly far enough at all. Icy clean paws came down inches from the pooled, dark water, and the cracking sound was as if a tree was falling over. Lines spider-webbed out from her paw location, and it gave way.

"S***!".
