Thanks for the input, I've been off line for a few days. This blackbird is now a regular and there's been plenty of opportunity to watch it. It is definitely not a common grackle, and cross referencing Bob's break down of the description with information on the internet I would tend to think it's a Brewer's Blackbird. Thank you for the help.
