PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

Making love to a m e m o r y

"If Love himself weep, shall not lovers weep,
learning from what sad cause he pours his tears?
Love hears his ladies crying their distress,
showing forth bitter sorrow through their eyes
because villainous Death has worked its cruel
destructive art upon a gentle heart,
and laid waste all that earth can find to praise
in a gracious lady, save her chastity."

The last time the thin, little mare had stepped foot into the Peak she was an emotional wreck. She was flighty and anxious, worried about issues in her life she couldn't control. But a quick conversation with a member of Inka's family had quickly put her at ease. Meeting Argento and Diamant had put things in perspective for her. At the time, Macabre was so fearful of Vodnik. And now here she was, striding into the Peak once again, having survived her short stint as lead mare in the Ridge.

But once again Macabre's life was in flux. The chestnut mare had fled the Ridge after Vodnik's abandonment. Another stallion was quick to come in and take over, and she didn't want to wait around to see what kind of temperament this one had. So she scooped up Lillith and her filly and they fled. Macabre's first stop was Paradise. She was surprised to find Jetta there, of all horses, in the company of Aillil. But both their faces were warmly received. It made her feel thankful for the friends she did have here.

It was more difficult to leave Atlantis than Macabre initially thought it would be. The mare had grown accustomed to the island's warm and humid temperatures. Of all the islands among the chain, she preferred this one because of its year-round lush offerings and mild climates. She'd take the torrential summer rain storms over a winter on Tinuvel any day. But the fondness the mare had for the island stemmed deeper than that. She had spent a good deal of her life living here. Though a good portion of that was under the rule of a dictator-like stallion or being left alone and abandoned altogether. Macabre learned a lot about herself during this stint. She was able to beat back her fears and be an aide to Aillil. Vodnik chose her to be his lead mare. She had a greater purpose to be better, and to do better by those who lived with her.

So despite Macabre's paranoia about what was next for her, she took strong and deliberate steps into the Peak. While she didn't doubt the Reaper's hold over her life -- she believed that her cursed life was ultimately response for Vodnik's disappearance, just like the others that came before him -- she had a renewed sense of confidence in herself. Should the Reaper wish to take her now, she would not cower in fear. She would not go willingly. Macabre was willing to fight. And until then, she decided she would remain in the Peak. She would be as useful to the family she had here as possible.

"Hear then how Love paid homeage to this lady;
I saw him weeping there in human form,
observing the stilled image of her grace;
and more than once he raised his eyes toward Heaven,
where that sweet soul already had its home,
which once, on earth, had worn enchanting flesh."
