aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Some are born great
Some achieve greatness

Instead of answering his questions directly, Seraphina instead expressed sorrow for his position. ‘I’m sorry about your grandfather. And that you never got to meet him.’ Vladimir let loose a soft whine and leaned into her. “Thanks, Seraphina. I don’t even know why I’m sad about his passing. How is it possible to miss someone that you didn’t even know, or know about? I mean obviously I guess I knew that Dad had a dad… but he never really mentioned him. Ever. I wonder why…” Vladimir coughed and swallowed to cut off a sob, before he viciously shook to shake lose his emotions. ‘I don’t think that your father will leave. Not without great difficulty, at least.’ Vladimir inhaled sharply. “Not without great difficulty? I mean yea. But Dad always firmly thinks everything out before he does anything. Why would he leave? Who will take over when he leaves? Will we leave? I just… don’t know.” He coughed again and leaned into his friend as Sera continued to talk. ‘He’s been here a long time right? This is his home and he doesn’t seem like the type to just up and leave everything behind. If he did go… I guess that he’d take you and Cas and your mother. You’re his family after all. And I can’t speak for everybody in the pack, but I’d go with you.’ And at that, Vladimir finally smiled. He knew that she had never planned on coming to this pack and hated the original idea of it… but in that moment, he could not be happier about her being here and staying. “You will? You’d come with me? With us? Because if you did you… you’d be family. We’d be family. And maybe when we grew up we could…” Vladimir bit his tongue before more words fell from his mouth and he shook his head. “Nevermind… what was it like for you?

Well, I was young when I left home, so it wouldn’t be the same as you leaving. Still, I missed it at first. It was all I knew, even if only for a short period of time. And it was scary sometimes, being alone in a foreign place and not really being able to protect myself. But it was worth it, in the end. After all, I met you, didn’t I?’ Vladimir smiled and nodded, but just then he looked upward and saw the light above their head, and came up with a quick plan for their daring escape. However, when he barked at the bugs, they did not budge. Seraphina, however, was much the wiser and his eyes tracked her as she scrambled up a boulder and leapt toward the lowest part of the ceiling, allowing her to swipe at the glowing beetles and throw a few down to the ground. ‘Do you think two is enough? I’m sure I could get some more if it’s not, but we could be here all day then.’Vladimir shook his head. “I think we can make two work! We just can each carry one and it will light our way as we are walking.”Vladimir picked his cave worm and grimaced at the taste of it but started walking forward nonetheless. He pulled gently on Seraphina’s tail after picking it up again. Step by step they moved forward and Vladimir traced the wall around the cave until finally they found an opening – a tunnel of sorts. “Well, I guess this is us! Unless we want to look for more downward tunnels?

Vladimir paused, waiting to see if she would agree or not, before continuing down the tunnel. It was a wonder how different their travels were when they could actually see. The fear that had previously been in his heart that they wouldn’t get out… that they would be stuck in this cavern forever dissipated. Now, he could see the floor of the cavern, the walls surrounding them. The lack of paw prints on the ground. And replacing that fear once more was excitement at being the only adventurers to ever tred this path. And luckily, the path began to widen. For a few hours they walked comfortably… until sudden he realized that the path ahead was blocked. Instead of rock, it was dirt, as if the cavern had caved in, an avalanched or mudslide perhaps. Dropping his cave worm, he peered back at Sera. “Don’t worry, I’ll get us out safely!” Quickly, Vlad began to dig his way out. His paws ached and his coat quickly became dirty. Each time he loosed a pawfull, another two took its place. But after ten minutes, he broke through. Excited, he began to scramble faster and faster until finally he crawled through. Sunlight bathed over his coat and warmed him and he began to laugh. “Sera! We are free!
