News 08.08.2021
Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

moonfeather

The treacherous turn in the weather had brought Moonfeather's searching nearly to a standstill. It was probably for the best, because she was beginning to feel a bit defeated and that it had all just been nothing more than a dream. Though she and Kutcha had not had any luck in finding the glacier cavern yet, the raven still went out on daily flights - perhaps the snowy landscape would reveal its entrance to him in ways the greenery of spring and summer and the fading colors of fall could not. He was out on one such flight when Moonfeather heard her name called upon the chilled winter air. She had been near her den, which she had expanded slightly to accommodate the growing collection of herbs and supplies she was building. In winter, everything stayed fresh because of the cold. But she worried that if she did not find the cavern from her dreams before spring, much of it would go to waste.

Lifting her head and turning towards the call, her head tilted slightly to the side. It was not a voice she immediately recognized as someone she'd met before, and yet there was something innately familiar about it. A short howl in response said, Coming! She nearly set off across the ice encrusted snowscape immediately, but then remembered NIviaq's lessons on preparedness. Even though there didn't seem to be anything about the call that warranted worry, she dipped into her den just long enough to grab the elk's stomach that was always ready with basic healing supplies. Taking care to place each paw safely as she made her way, she almost seemed to glide atop the shining surface of snow.

Her pace was not necessarily quick, and it took her some time to reach the general area where she assumed the call had originated from. Pausing, she glanced around, wondering where the wolf was who had summoned her. It took her a moment to look down a small slope that led to the banks of one of the still open creeks and spot the battered form of Baird. Turquoise eyes went wide and her heart leapt into her throat. "You're hurt!" she exclaimed with surprise. Why hadn't she come quicker? Moving immediately to action, Moonfeather was sure to take the path down the slope carefully - if she got hurt too then she would be of no use to him.

Once she had reached level ground with him, she set down the elk's stomach, and then realized not only was he hurt - his pelt was soaking wet. If she didn't get him out of the cold quickly there was a risk for hypothermia. Though she was only a healer in training, her eyes moved over him hastily, storing each injury in her mind and beginning to call forth lessons on how to treat each one. The cuts on his face were not deep enough to be of immediate concern, but the contusion on the side of his head was. Other than how wet he was, the majority of his body didn't seem too badly injured, but then she reached his limbs and found the scraped and already swollen forelimb - clearly the reason he was still out in the open. As soon as she had finished looking over his body, her gaze lifted to glance at their surroundings. Nothing, trees, snow...she looked back to Baird momentarily. "I'll be right back." Then she turned and set off along the creekbed in search of some kind of shelter.

She returned only a few minutes later, scooping up the elk stomach and moving to his side. "If you lean against me to keep the weight off your leg, can you walk? There is a den just around the bend in the creek. I have to get you out of the cold." Her look was imploring, hoping that he would at least try this for her. If not, she would have to try to treat the leg here and hope hypothermia wouldn't set in. It was only when she moved close to his side that she realized why his voice had seemed somewhat familiar to her - his scent was as well. She looked into his face as she smiled politely, helping him to stand and lean against her. "You're Sila's brother...Baird, right?" There were the subtle hints of his relation to Niviaq in his voice and scent alike, though it was more Sila that she recognized in him. Plus, if she could get him talking it would not only serve as a distraction from his injuries (one of the early lessons Niviaq had taught her in bedside manner), it would allow her to gauge just how bad his head injury might have been.

and heaven's not enough, if when I'm there
I don't remember you
and heaven does enough; you think
you know it and it uses you
