Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The Deadliest Huntress
female cougar - 12 years old - 38" - 250#

Night had come. It was time to hunt. Slitering down from her perch, the large cat moved on silent paws towards the sound of bubbling water. Ever since coming to this land, her belly had been full each and every night. The deer here were plentiful, but that was not all that pleased her palette. In all her life, she had never had so much wolf meat. They were everywhere! And they had grown complacent in the knowledge that they were the old predators. That would be their undoing.

Slowly, the old queen towards the river and lapped at the freezing waters. The snow had melted and caused the water to rush by at a loud, quick pace. Staying close to the bank allowed her to stay safe and dry while also allowing her to drink comfortably. When her thirst was sated, she moved away from the water to glace around the open land. Licking her lips, she could smell the area was still full of life.

It wasn't until something laughed nearby that her head turned with a snap. Though she was old, her eyes still worked well. They could see perfectly in the dark of the night and they quickly spotted a figure moving on the other side of the river. For a moment, the cat wondered if it was worth it to hunt the foolish beast. Carefully, she moved to the edge of the water and simply watched, as silent as the grave.

A few minutes later, she pulled her soaking wet body from the water, not even bothering to shake the excess off. Though she didn't prefer it, swimming came easily to the cougar. The hunt had begun. What she had learned from watching the wolf was enough. He was big, yes, but young an inexperienced. She could smell it on him. Alone, loud, and without a care, he thought he was safe. She was about to prove him wrong.

The giant paws moved swiftly and silently across the open area. Her only warning was the infamous scream of her kind as she tried to leap at the wolf. Claws out, she aimed a powerful blow to his head. If it landed, she would try to rake the flesh from him and kill him on the spot. Getting him to the ground was her main attack for once he was there, her large teeth around his throat would end it quick. Tonight, she would have wolf yet again!
