The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

Now that she had brought up the danger of the mushrooms, he couldn't help but keep eying them in his peripheral vision, like they were going to grow legs and attack him with knives or something. He wondered just how deadly they were. Like, if he touched it with the tip of his toe nail, would he just conk over dead right here? Would she even try to save him? Would there be a way to save him? Maybe Thor overthought things sometimes. His mind was a very creative place. Her eyes were so exotic every time she looked at him. It's like it was fuddling his mind, leaving him unfocused. He'd never seen pink eyes before. He wondered about her parents. Did they have pink eyes? Just her mom or dad or both? It was all he could think about, but he didn't want to play twenty questions. Wait, actually, they could! They had a whole night, to kill, after all. He would keep that in mind.

He was sure that she wasn't out to try to kill anyone, at least not tonight hopefully. He did want to survive the night. She told him what her mother always said and he couldn't help but tilt his head and raise a brow. It didn't sound like anything his other parents would have said to him. Natu was such a sweet gentle creature and Fenrir thought only of his family.

"WELL THAT'S ONE WAY TO LOOK AT IT, I GUESS. SO MUCH FOR SEEING THE BEST IN EVERYONE, RIGHT? WHERE DOES THAT GET YOU? PROBABLY ON THE OTHER END OF THOSE MUSHROOMS. YOUR MOTHER SOUNDS LIKE A VERY PARANOID WOLF."

His expression softened. He didn't want to offend her and hoped he wouldn't with that comment. Some woles would get insulted when you talk about their parents and he guessed he wouldn't blame her. Maybe her mother had good reason to be that way. Maybe someone had done something bad to her at one time. He didn't know, after all. None the less, he liked the way her eyes lit up when she talked about healing, like it was the biggest thing in her life. She was ambitious. He admired that in any wolf. He wondered if she had a pack already and a trainer to help her with her dreams. She didn't outright smell like any particular pack but the scent could have faded while she dug for plants and herbs. He wondered which pack called to her. He knew Glorall didn't really have a big healer right now but he hoped soon that either his sister Samia or his best friend Inanna would hold that position.

She laughed when we talked about the predators of the night and it was a light musical sound. She agreed that it was for his protection with a big grin that made his brow rise as he gave her a skeptical look.

"ARE YOU TEASING ME, MISS JUBILEE?"

His eyes lit up with amusement, his own lips twitching in a smirk to let her know that he has a good sense of humor so he wouldn't mind if she was. It seemed she liked to laugh a lot. He liked that. A wolf was always easier to hang out with if they had a sense of humor and a good laugh. She certainly had that. Then the real reason for her perspective came out in her first sentence. She was afraid of the unknown. His ears pricked forward at this. This was where they differed because he LIVED for the unknown. No matter what had happened to him in his past, he never blamed it on circumstance. He almost drowned in the river in Glorall, but instead of fearing water, he was determined to learn how to swim so he could best the water next time. He never let fear hold him back. Maybe he could help Jubilee. His expression softened.

"YOU'RE RIGHT. THERE IS BAD IN THIS WORLD. BUT THERE IS ALSO A LOT OF GOOD. I THINK YOU WOULD FEEL LESS BURDENED IF YOU FREED YOURSELF OF SUCH WORRY. I'M NOT SAYING IT'S NOT GOOD TO BE PREPARED, BUT YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR MIND OPEN TO WHAT COULD GO RIGHT, NOT SPEND YOUR TIME WORRYING ABOUT WHAT COULD GO WRONG. THAT'S NO WAY TO LIVE."

His eyes glistened with sadness that anyone would go through life fearing what they don't understand. He believed it's what made some wolves turn bad. Maybe someone only saw the worst in them as they grew up. Maybe someone didn't believe in them enough. He followed her gaze to the mushrooms, remembering her last words. His nose wrinkled at the thought of getting near one of those things. He almost didn't even want to breathe in the same vicinity of those mushrooms. He raised a brow at her again

"IF YOU KEEP LOOKING AT THOSE MUSHROOMS, I MIGHT HAVE TO RE-THINK MY LUCK, YOU KNOW. IT'S NOT REALLY HELPING MY REASSURANCE OF SAFETY."

His eyes lit up again with humor to let her know he was just teasing. He wanted to lighten the mood so they could have a decent night.
