Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

He was trying to read her expression, anything to know what she's been going through since he knew she couldn't outright tell him. There was a sadness in her eyes like something or someone had been taken from her or had left. He couldn't guess which but he would find out somehow, some way. He knew there were other ways to communicate besides talking. He had figured out gestures and ways to write in the dirt with Wren so he was sure he could do that with Tuari too. He whimpered softly to let her know that he could pick up on her sadness and he wanted to comfort her. He didn't know if it was a family member, a friend, maybe even something more, like a mate or imprint. She could even be trying to tell him she was sad when he left, for all he knew. But somehow he would piece it all together again. When he first saw her, all it took was one glance at the markings and he knew that it was her. The next clue would have been her scent that wafted to him on the breeze she was making in her run so he knew without a doubt that this was Tuari before she was even close. He was so happy to see her and if her wagging tail was any clue, she was happy to see him too.

He was glad that she had chosen to stay in Taviora. He hadn't seen Wren upon his return which made him think perhaps the male had decided to leave. He saddened by this but he wouldn't let it slow him down. He wondered if Tuari had made any friends in his absence. Surely other wolves would try to understand her as he did. Surely they would look out for her. That had to be why she stayed here. Either way, he would go out of his way to make her feel appreciated and safe now that he was back. She was his friend and as such, his to protect. After he had looked her over to make sure there were no wounds or injuries or anything else of the sort that he would have to ask about, he moved forward to embrace her. He could feel her tense up in surprise at first before her body slowly started melting into his and he smiled, glad that she seemed to appreciate the hug. He finally released her, stepping back to read her expression once more since that was the biggest clue when it came to communicating with wolves like her. She seemed overjoyed that he still thought of her as a friend and he let his tail continue wagging. She meant a lot to him.

He noted that she closed her eyes tightly and just before she did, he could have sworn he saw the glistening of unshed tears in her eyes. Was she just that glad to see him or was it something more, emotions of something else bubbling to the surface? He was curious but at the same time, he didn't want to push her. She acted like she was trying to get over something. There was a tightness to her expression that he didn't remember from before, like there was grief and she was trying her hardest to move past it. He wanted to help her in any way he could. She suddenly lifted her paw, pressing it to her chest before she mouthed something and he tilted his head, watching her lips carefully since he knew there would be nothing to listen to. Either way, he could pick up the keywords imprint and left and his ears instantly drooped in sadness for her. Another whimper of sympathy left his lips as he stepped forward, pressing his forehead to hers as he closed his eyes.

"I'M SORRY, TUARI. I'M SO SORRY. I CAN'T IMAGINE THE PAIN YOU ARE GOING THROUGH."

He could never understand what it is to lose an imprint because he couldn't have an imprint. He had known it from a young age. Somehow it just occurred to him that he was different and then he was thankful for it because waht kind of female could love a male like him? A monster like him? An imprint would be too close for comfort, someone who could pick up on his emotions, perhaps all but read his thoughts and then he would have to open up to her, tell her who and what he was and then she would either leave him or try to protect him. And ultimately, she would probably get herself killed trying to protect him and he could never forgive himself for that. It was better this way, he had convinced himself of that. When he stepped back, he saw the sudden smile on her lips as if she was trying to tell him she was better now, happier, but he had a hard time believing she was ever truly over such a loss. From what he had heard of imprinting, it wasn't just something you could get over like any other loss. It was like losing a part of your soul.

Still, he smiled back to comfort her and then watched her twirl in circles, his lips tugging into the shadow of a smirk, his eyes twinkling.

"YOU CAN VENT TO ME ANYTIME, OKAY? IF YOU NEED A FRIEND, JUST SOMEONE TO HANG OUT WITH, I DON'T MIND. YOU'RE WELCOME AT MY DEN, DAY OR NIGHT."

He was aware that she might have been romantic with her imprint, that they might have been close, maybe even sharing a den. He didn't mind if she needed to feel the warmth of someone sleeping beside her at night. Maybe it would help her sleep, help comfort her in her lonliest times. He knew when the grief of losing his mom was still fresh and raw, he would hide the emotions until night fall. That was when the loneliness would hit, the memories he had shared with her. That was when he would let it all out, drown himself in his grief. So maybe she had been doing that every night and the thought made him feel shattered inside. He wanted to be there for her. He would be there for her. But now she had stopped twirling and was tilting her head at him, an inquisitive and expectant look in her eyes. He smirked a little, sure that this was her way of asking him to open up next so he nodded in acknowledgement.

"NOTHING SO GROUND BREAKING, I PROMISE. STILL NO MATE OR IMPRINT. OF COURSE, THAT'S OFF THE BOOKS FOR ME, ANYWAY. I TRAVELED AROUND MOSTLY BY MYSELF, HUNTING AND TRACKING. I WAS WORKING TOWARD MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE, A PLACE WITHOUT SO MUCH DEATH AND DARKNESS. I HOPE I ACHIEVED SOMETHING AND HOPEFULLY I CAN ACHIEVE THE SAME HERE. I'M GOING TO WORK WITH ZELDA HERE TOWARD PROTECTING THE PACK AND THOSE IN IT. I MIGHT NEED A REFRESHER ON MY TREE CLIMBING SKILLS, THOUGH."

He said with a playful wink. He had never told her what he could do when he was younger, how he was addicted to finding murder sites and reading the story in the blood, how he wanted to look into a killer's mind and understand them. How he was a killer himself. He didn't want to just come out and say it, because how would she see him then? No, he would word it carefully without outright lying to her because that didn't set well with him either. Maybe some day he would feel comfortable telling someone who he truly was, but not today. Not during an otherwise great reunion with a friend.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
