It had been a spell since she had gone out at night. The fear kept her from blissful rest at night when she roamed. Hiding in the smallest of crevices yet never secure enough to keep her from the nightmares that haunted her. Her thoughts roamed to the male that saved her, perhaps she had gotten the only wolf she could befriend killed. Guilt and lack of sleep weigh heavily on her as black tipped paws pulled her slowly from her resting spot. A small crack between two rocks, she had called it home for the night but she knew she had to keep moving. Nothing felt safe anymore, everything felt like it couldn’t be trusted. Not even the trees calmed her wondering mind.
She was further south, she was wary of the forest and of the night and often moved at the sun's first light. Dawn had crept up and easily disturbed her; Inara squeezed her eyes shut breathing in deeply before sauntering out and stretching slightly. She only had small prey as of late and it was beginning to show. She was beautiful to the eye and yet that would never lure a doe or buck to her jaws. Her stomach growled and the sigh that left her couldn’t be escaped. Moving slowly she turned her head and looked at the mountain range before her. It was new a place she hadn’t been. Perhaps it wasn’t infested with the beast that roamed the forests and valleys.
The girl shook her golden and creamy coat, the warm sun soaking into her black striped back; a delicate eat twitched followed by her nose. She was at a pack borders the scent was clearly and yet the bleating made her stomach knot. She knew the risks and yet she was hungry; perhaps she could catch a kid or a juvenile and move on without ever being seen. Violet and gold lined eyes searched eagerly following the cries the goats made. It seemed a smaller herd but she could see the others in the distance and a very large ram that almost made her reconsider.
Predator or not she wouldn’t take down the ram alone in his prime and with all the beast roaming she couldn’t afford the beating. It seemed higher on the slopes but a juvenal began to stray towards her. She hadn’t been spotted but the wind had shifted and the goats became alerted. She sprang forward grasping the throat of the juvenal earning a kick to the chest but she dug her teeth deeper into the flesh trying in desperation to drag the wild creature away from its family. Her ribs had felt the dying goats fury but he soon settled into the life diminished from him. Inara shifted, she gasped softly knowing she would bruise but at least she had food to keep her going.
Inara lifted her head and cast her gaze around; tricolored ears flattened before she lowered her muzzle to dig in. She was wary of the eyes around her, perhaps she was a large wolf for her age but she wasn’t out looking for a fight but she would defend her meal if she must; pack wolf or not she needed to protect what was hers and herself. She relaxed soon after waiting a moment before eating with reserved bites ready to fight or bolt depending on what came her way.
