Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die . . .

This place, it was filled with such pleasant aromas. The scent of wolf, such a welcoming scent after the endless stings of sand and sun he had endured the first half of his journey, and the loneliness the second. If he was not mad before, this journey would have certainly made him so! The spindly man looked like an earthen statue where he stood, unmoving in the middle of the woods, as if he was carved and left there by an ancient being long ago. His eyes were open, gazing serenely out into the treetops, head raised just so, as to give him to perfect angle to observe whatever it was had caught his attention. It appeared today to be two songbirds roosting amongst the dying leaves, tweeting and twittering between themselves. Alhazred raised a paw slightly, and for as still as he had been standing, a groan should have emanated from it in protest of its movement.

"What do you know, birds? Alhazred wants to know... to see like a bird sees... far above." His voice, strangely, was filled with an almost childish wonder, it's highly accented and stilted tones however making it far harder to understand. The birds did not seem to mind him, non-threatening as his posture and stature were, and he continued to observe them with eyes wide and ears keen and pricked. He could know so much more, he thought, if he could simply fly... Perhaps he could seek the answers to the questions that had driven him to this state, but the further he sought the more mad he had went. And why had he left the City? He could not remember, but the male supposed that it had something to do with things he had seen, yes, he had seen them with his own eyes! They were out there, slumbering far beneath the sands and sea, eldritch abominations seen only in nightmares...

His eyes seemed to glaze over, his body giving a perceptible shudder before he collapsed into fits of laughter. The birds chirped in alarm before launching from the tree, small wings flapping quickly to get away from the perceived threat of the mad wolf. "The birds! Yes, the birds know! They can fly above The Nameless City, they can see the shifts in the sands... They know! They know!" Alhazred continued to laugh, a harsh, almost barking sort of noise, and sort of collapsed in on himself until he was laying sprawled across the forest floor.

The crunch of leaf litter caught his attention, and his head picked up slightly, his wild fur and even wilder eyes matching his hysterical laughter quite well as he gazed at whatever creature had been drawn towards his inane mumblings. "Closer, closer, Alhazred does not bite... He does not bite but perhaps he chews!" The statement caused his laughing fit to pick up again, his head falling flat against the forest floor, emaciated chest heaving with the strenuous exercise of its fit. Too much to be contained inside of him, he must get it out somehow, lest he lose his mind entirely to the loneliness of the sands and the things that he had seen, the things that he now knew.
