There were times when Thor could see the creases in Eden's face, like he was thinking long and hard about something well beyond himself. Thor's own brows furrowed in concern in these times, wishing he knew how to help. He had no idea what it was to be a leader of a pack, to have the weight of the world on your shoulders, so to speak. He didn't know what all was going on with Eden and what he had to deal with on a day to day basis. The only things he did know was that Eden had been there for the pack for a long time now and he had always been a good leader, just and fair. He kept them safe. He kept Thor's family safe when he wasn't here. He let them have a peaceful life and then a peaceful death. He gave Samia a sanctuary until Thor could return. Thor felt like he owed Eden so much for just being here and he wanted to thank him in some way. He wanted to be a loyal follower, to prove his worth for the sake of his pack and his family. As he told Eden what he had been planning, Eden listened, his breathing already slowing from the run.
He listened with bated breath for Eden's reaction. Eden finally told him that it was clever, and that it was the same technique used for hunting. Thor nodded in agreement. But then his eyes widened and he looked at Eden.
"Not that I was thinking of you as a sheep or anything like that."
He didn't want Eden to get the wrong idea, after all. Then Eden motioned for him to follow him along the beach and Thor obeyed, meeting his pace as they walked the shoreline. At Eden's first words, Thor paused, puzzlement shining in his eyes as he turned to face his alpha. Eden said that he wasn't only looking to test him and now it was Thor's turn to tilt his head. What was going on? He was curious. Eden then brought up the past, how Thor was as a puppy and Thor found himself surprised that Eden even remembered how he was. It only made him more sure that this was the alpha he wanted to follow. Someone who knew their pack members and kept up with them. Someone who really cared. So he wanted to know why Thor changed his mind, why now he wanted to fight instead of talk. He scowled thoughtfully before taking a deep breath.
"You are right. I guess you could say I spent so long on my own that talking just wasn't going to cut it anymore. I've heard others talk and then I've seen them act in a completely different way. This tells me that honesty is more in your actions than in your words. I know that I could spend all day talking to someone and negotiating but at the end of the day, they could right around and do the opposite of what they say they're going to do. I'm sure that talking has its uses but I feel that by being able to defend myself and my pack, I'm doing more for peace than just wasting my breath. Let's face it, I'm a good talker. But I want to expand past my comfort zone. I want to be honest in my actions, not just my words."
He took another deep breath, waiting for Eden's reaction once again.
