Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

He didn't know that a pack mate had been attacked by one of these beasts, only that they were a constant danger for anyone in his pack or any other pack for that matter. They were growing too bold and vicious, like they were rabid or something. It didn't bode well with him because he didn't want to see anyone get hurt besides those that deserved it. He looked forward to seeing the pack work together to take out these animals. They were all here for the same thing so it would be easy enough to collaborate and take out as many as they could with as few injuries as they could. He could hear other wolves approaching Zelda from behind him, one ear swiveling back to listen as the sounds of paws would get louder than a little dimmer as they each scattered and went their own way. But the wolves were all staying moderately close together, close enough to pick up on if anyone ran into anything, or anyone. He was trying to be silent but it was harder with so many others around. He was distracted and he knew that would be a disadvantage. When he hunted killers, he was on his own with no one else to blow his cover. He would study his victim long before he would strike, pick out a pattern in their routine and then stalk them before he would attack. He also used herbs and scents to lull them to sleep so that they would wake up paralyzed and unable to move so that he could finish them off without taking a scratch. It was low risk for the most part, as long as he did everything else right but this was going to be very different.

He didn't have herbs to use this time. He didn't have time to watch a predator's routine. He was just going to have to trail them down and then strike and bring the whole pack to that location. There was no time for planning and that made the risk of this hunt go way further up the list. The predator would be looking for its next victim and they were about to walk right into whatever trap it may have been setting. The predator would probably be on edge and not easy to surprise and lots of wolves walking would surely catch its attention. Maybe it would go the other way to avoid any confrontation but that didn't seem to fit the common bio. They were angry for some reason, more easy to provoke. A predator might have even heard Zelda's howl. Maybe one was heading here right now. His skin tingled at the very thought of a confrontation so soon after their huddle. It was the reason they were out tonight but he didn't want to run into two panthers or something like that. Of course he couldn't be so lucky. Instead he heard the pounding of massive paws and when he stopped to look, all he saw was a massive paw swinging toward his body. Barking in warning to the other wolves in case they didn't know, he went to leap out of the way. He yelped and winced as he felt the tips of the bear's claws rip across his hindquarters, drawing blood. It hurt like hell but his adrenaline was racing and he wasn't about to slow down now. That was one way to get himself killed.

"Tuari, watch out!"

No matter if the bear was after him or not, he would always put others before himself so he called out to her even as he was swung around by the force of the bear's swing, snarling in retaliation even as the bear roared a deep bellowing sound reverberating into the forest. He knew the others should be on them soon and sure enough, he caught four figures racing toward them. He could pick out the four brothers from the gathering as they rushed for the bear's front and back legs. Tuari lunged from his side, going right for the bear's face and he felt his chest tighten at the thought of the bear's jaws clamping down on her. No, he couldn't face that. Knowing it was probably a long shot, he raced forward, right at the bear just as Tuari had. But instead of going for the face as she did, he ducked down as she went up, angling his jaws and snapping upward into the bear's throat area. He knew it would be thick fur and meat and fat but he had to try, anything to draw blood and slow the bear down. Maybe with the aide of the other wolves tearing it down by the legs and her distracting it at the face, maybe just maybe he could get a good bite in. He had to hope so or otherwise at least draw its attention to him instead of Tuari. He would do anything to save her. If he managed to grab hold of the thick fur there, he would jerk his head viciously and try to dig as deep as he could with his teeth, ripping and tearing like he was trying to dig through dirt with his teeth. Instead, he wanted to dig through the fat and thick skin, pushing himself upward at the bear unless it moved or reared up on its back legs.

Once the bear moved, he would leap back as fast as he could to get out of reach of those long claws. His back end was throbbing but he wasn't going to let it slow him down just yet, hoping to keep the bear's attention scattered with all the wolves surrounding it and his own blood running down his leg. That should keep the bear's bloodlust going wild. He could only hope the other wolves would come to help so they could finish this beast once and for all.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
