FIRE BURNS WHERE IT FALLS

Keyik echoed what Maslakhat had been thinking—would it truly matter if he never found Yusuf? He was certainly not a physical threat. The only reason Valve wanted him gone was because she viewed his immense weakness as a tarnish on their bloodlines. It was a matter of pride mostly, and while he understood her desire for his elimination, he also knew that a horse like Yusuf wasn’t going to get in their way. Having Yusuf around for him was not much different than having Wolpertinger around for her, he imagined.

“Nothing, probably,” he answered. “You’re right, I should focus on something a little more… lofty… in importance.”

He grinned at her as they walked, listening as she explained that she did in fact have some tangible goals he could be a part of. Intrigue filled his head and he tilted his head slightly to the side as she affirmed his interest.

“Well, what do you have in mind?” He responded, his eyes glimmering with delight at the prospect of a fresh new mission. It was high time Maslakhat made his own way, and if he could find out what Keyik truly wanted, perhaps there might be a path for him as well. If Valve could not make space for his skillset in her intricately woven web, perhaps the answer lay with the perlino girl at his side.
