He woke up with a feeling of ice down to his bones, his eyes blurrily tugging open to see why. His mother was gone. He glanced around the den in wonder, blinking his eyes a few times to adjust to the dim lighting as he tried to figure out where she might have wandered off to. He wasn't an idiot, even so young. He could feel the anger his mother held toward him and while he didn't understand why, he felt somehow responsible for it. He must have done something wrong but no matter how he tried and tried, he couldn't figure out what it was. And so he walked on egg shells around her, avoiding direct gaze at all times and trying to be quiet. He winced every time he tripped over his overly large paws or stumbled into his brother, expecting instant retaliation from her because he already seemed to be on her shit list. He kept his gaze averted at all times when he was around her though the minute she was gone, his real personality would start to shine through and suddenly he was boiterous and confident, wrestling with Prometheus and trying to show Corona how to defend herself as well. He couldn't very well have his little sister helpless, now could he?
It was like a switch in his mind but he had adapted to it from birth, learning at an early age that his mother wouldn't snuggle with him or coddle him and so he stopped expecting it sooner rather than later. And yet he refused to hate her for the way she felt. He couldn't help but think he must have done something to deserve this anger. He just didn't know what. But it didn't stop him from being a normal curious puppy. When she would wander off, he would try to follow and be as sneaky as he could. Today was no different. When he found that she wasn't in the den, he moved to his paws and gave a good stretch, his jaws parting in an indolent yawn before he moved off after her. He sniffed out her familiar scent and went after it with determination, trotting along as gracefully as he could though he was still well into his young awkward stage. He could make out her outline soon enough so he slowed down and stuck closer to the trees, depending on them to throw some shade on his otherwise light coat. His ears pricked forward, wondering what she was up to.
