Humor glittered in her eyes; “Flatter myself, I would never. Just remind myself and share my knowledge with you. After all, that is what friends would do, no?” There was deep intrigue in her eyes, as far as she could tell she had no need for friends but allies on the other hand yes. She could have many friends but friends were numbers few showed loyally and while she was loyal to her pack to extend her personal loyalty extend to so very few and far between. She, after all, wouldn’t lay her own life down for just anyone or even put her life at risk without some sort of reason. Mara wasn’t inherently evil perhaps dark and yet she still desired to protect what was good, and she judged at least Lada Zelda and her family seemed good.
Mara cast her gaze in acknowledgment almost expecting an answer but when he moved to question her she offered a grin not often found played upon her lips. “Do they permit me? They do not control me. I offer loyalty and though I may promote affections to those I feel worthy of them it doesn’t mean that my submission to their will is owed. My choice is to be mindful of my own and that just happens to include my pack. So, I will do what is needed to keep the peace for my packs sake, all the same, it would be foolish for a pack to make enemies with a pack when only one wolf has issues with a wolf or two who is in said pack, no?” Now it was curiosity that was in her eyes but soon nodded and followed the male further into the territory.
Her smaller frame averted some ducking the larger male had to do but she lingered on the fringes of his coat not quite trusting him fully but not opposed to thinking of it as the male offering some sense of familiarity like her own sister would offer. He spoke once more on his name and the fact she was a diplomat and perhaps it lacked all she hoped to be, yet he wasn’t entirely wrong. Mara followed down the sloped dunes to the sea neglecting to offer him a name just yet. She was interested in his real name and yet it held nothing important but in a way she favored him for his anonymity. By far he was one of the more notable wolves she had met save Zanon, yet he was something different entirely. Shaking the thought out of mind he spoke once again.
Sighing she lifted her gaze to meet his own. “This ball, it will achieve very little, if nothing for almost everyone else; for my self, I hope to achieve so much more. Yet, here you are the only piece who has managed to be the most intriguing of all chose to question this and for that, I will give you my honesty. I want exactly what I told you when we first spoke. Knowledge. I have all intentions to keep my pack in a state of peace, but war is in the past, it happens in the present, and it will be in the future so why wouldn’t I use a peaceful event to my advantage. Find strengths and weakness. I don’t doubt others are planning to do the same thing. What better way to protect my own if I learn my enemy? I hope you didn’t expect dancing or soft fluffy feelings.” The gaze she cast was almost as stone with a brow raised in question. She wondered what others expected from the gathering or even from herself.
Casting a lingering glance to the sea and then once more back on the male she spoke again; “I have expected nothing from these ventures but I would like to make an ally out of you desiderabilia mea et pulcherrima anguis (my precious snake), you are unlike most and for that I realize you could be potent however I favor you. So tell me, do you hope that this ball will achieve something? If so, I hope I didn’t ruin the grander of it all with my honesty.” She settled and waited for him to speak the roar of the sea just offsetting her silence ever so skillfully her side gaze never wavered from the male even as her head turned towards the captivating view.
