a vexatious kiss
She felt it once more. The slowly growing hunger that would overtake her senses once more if she did not feed soon. More than that, she needed to do it to survive. To keep herself she had to do what she hated most, but she didn’t want to find another unsuspecting victim, because what if it happened again? What if the wolf she stumbled upon, or rather struck down was someone she knew? Like Briseis. The poor girl had undergone such tremendous and horrid pain after Diosa’s bite. The poison had flood through her arteries and veins. Coursing with each beat and because she had landed square on the jugular vein it had gone straight back to the girls heart. She had been lucky to live, just as anyone would have, had they been her victim. This time though she wasn’t going to go out and search. At the same time though she hated to do this, she didn’t want to put Briseis through it again. She had screamed in agony, wanted death more in that moment than she had ever thought possible. And yet Diosa somehow had the audacity to go ask her. She wouldn’t pounce or force it, however hard it would become to fight her own instincts.
Diosa wanted to live.
She didn’t care by who or what measure, but if Briseis said no then it would very likely be too late for Diosa to go elsewhere to feed. She couldn’t feed on unwilling pack members. Mother would disapprove, because she had guaranteed safety to those who had offered to stay and protect the pack. She also had to feed from a mortal wolf. Had she been able to feed from her own kind or basic prey she would have been okay. This was not the case though and she was going to pay for unwillingness to feed, if she didn’t soon.
She trudged with heavy paws towards the area in which she knew Draven to keep the imprisoned girl. Diosa skirted around it checking to make sure Draven was not near, but she couldn’t have been sure since she couldn’t smell him. She did smell Briseis though, and worse she could hear the faint pulsating beat of her blood. The steady thump of her heart in her chest. Bri? Are you there? Her voice was unsteady, shaky even. It was stark contrast to the tone of voice she carried around outsiders, like Rogan. She had a sharp tongue, a quick mind. Here and now though, she was scared, for what though? Her life? The fact that it could end in a few short days if she didn’t feed. A subtle shiver ran down her spine, her ears pricked for the sound of approaching paw steps. She didn’t want to ask, but she didn’t know who else to go to. Diosa was just a lost little girl, unable to control what life had dealt her, but that didn’t mean Briseis owed her anything. Really it was Diosa who owed her.
