Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Since her run in with the rather outspoken pup in the fields, Maude had kept to the western half of Moladion for the second half of winter. The snow was more plentiful but perhaps it would be worth it. She was still tossing around the idea of finally finding a place to settle, but the thought still gave her anxiety. What if she chose wrong? What if the place she ended up choosing was filled with terrible wolves who mocked her? What if she was never able to find someone to love her?

Growling, Maude narrowed her eyes as she stomped through the snow alongside the Aplos river. After a time, when her frustration had eased, she slowed to a stop and simply looked around her. The world seemed so clean and bright in the winter. It covered the dirt and the mud. Sometimes she wished that the snow would cover her too. Would cover her with its deceptive beauty and just for once she would feel clean and lovely and...worthy.

Sighing, Maude looked to the North where the mountains rose above all else. She'd contemplated for a time seeking a place with the reclusive mountain pack but she was not nimble or agile. To the South and East of her was the moors. Another potential place for her to settle but again she wasn't certain. What if she sunk into the swamps, heavy as she was?

No doubt, anywhere that she found would suggest that she'd make a good fighter. It wouldn't be the first time she'd heard that suggestion either. Another reason that she hesitated. She might be built for confrontation or defense and she might be good at sneaking around with her hideous, muddy pelt, but truthfully she'd never really been given the chance to figure out what she really wanted to do with life. Not that she was doing much of anything with her life now aside from existing.

Another sigh escaped her as she moved North towards the small lake, pond really, that was fed by the mountain streams. Testing the strength of the ice at the edge of the pond, Maude began to make her way out towards the middle, brushing snow away here and there until she found a bit of ice that was somewhat reflective. Clearing it as best she could, the brown gingerly sat down and peered down at her blurry reflection, brow furrowed.
