The arrival of the new girl had made Ruby pause; she blinked slowly and turned her attention to her. She stared, her blinks still slow, just to really get it across to her that the newcomer was hardly welcome. She might have just chosen to ignore her if she hadn't spoken which, in turn, had inspired the boy to speak too; their tones were hardly acceptable. The pair of them bared their teeth and Ruby merely raised a brow in response.
"Why should I?" She huffed, a hah! of amused laughter to herself, as she rose up and puffed her chest out. Her mother had given her an instinctual need to rise above; already, at such a young age, she needed to know how to set boundaries. Sometimes her mother was too strange and rough not to.
She took a bold step forward and up the incline, her lips peeled back into a snaggled grin as she challenged them to stop her. They wanted to be so brave all the way up there! She wondered if they'd be brave when she got to the top too. So she marched along, ignorant of them, with her tail raised and eyes half-moons of disinterest in whatever they had to say. At least, until she was at a similar level to them. Then she turned to them with a shrug and a flick of her ear. "Well?"
