You are clearly out of touch of what is happening in most eye units in the UK. Many specialty doctors do operate and indeed CCT trainees often attend their theatre lists and benefit from their surgical experience. In addition, many fellows also supervise the CCT trainee and have indeed been asked to, by the training programme director and provide assessments through the college portfolio for the CCT trainee.
Are you suggesting that only consultant staff should provide supervision, and if so this is a departure from the current RCOphth guidelines.
Your post is particularly insulting to a considerable number of experienced doctors who have taken the time to support and teach CCT trainees when consultants are not available.
