I am a post-CCT. To be honest trainee experience was not exactly as pampered as we see it nowadays. I used to leave hospital constantly late after an overbooked cas, with no senior cover. Sometimes I had to do 4-5 cas sessions per week (my record is 6). During oncalls,quite often I had to stay till midnight to see 9-10 patients booked for review on a ward without any nursing help, simply because there were no slot to fit them in the day time cas! effectively night clinics.

I totally sympathize with the non-trainee doctors. I learnt so much from them, things which consultants hesitated to teach or simply didn't have enough confidence or experience compared to associate specialists.

Unfortunately this system is not build on justice, but we need to work towards changing it. I personally try to support and help any non-trainee doctor as much as possible within my ability.
