a vexatious kiss

It was a slowly building well of tormented thoughts and painful emotions that was starting to ooze and seep out of the crevasses around her fractured persona. That seemingly impenetrable wall of maturity and wit was breaking down right before the eyes of Khaleesi and herself. She had had it, she had been so close to holding it together, keeping the relationship between them on a strictly need to know basis. It hadn’t been necessary for the ivory ess to know what darkness haunted the Caidir Princess, what drove her to the limits of her own sanity, how desperately she tried to fight the stigma of being the daughter to one of the most insane creature to have ever roamed Blossom Forest. Aside from Draven, Lucyne was not far from that mark of lunacy, in her own psychopathic and senseless way. And Diosa, well she was the presumed product of that madness. In reality she was merely a façade of impeccable insults, cool and calculated measurements, with a tinge of delusion to really sell it through to her mother and everyone else in Caidir Olc. Very few had seen through this deck of characters she had within herself, for it was in her better interest to keep it to herself. If word was to get to her mother that she was not a true vampire, it could be the end of her. She could be banished, tormented, or any innumerable punishment that the Vampire Queen could think of.

And yet most days Diosa said that she loved this family she had.

Was she lying to herself? Did Diosa truly know what love was or did she just accept the life that the world had given to her. How could she argue? She was set to inherit the army of Vampires that Draven and Lucyne had been attempting to build, she had the power to induce a comatose state of loyalty to herself, she was a natural borne killer. Some wolves would’ve died at these chances and yet here she was trying so desperately to fight it off, make a different life for herself. Away from the insanity of her mother that supposedly flowed through her. One where she might have been normal, could have had love, eaten the carcass of small prey like a bird or rabbit, and just lived out her existence blissfully unaware of the pains she was currently feelings. All these twisted up emotions, conflicting ideas of who she was, who she wanted to be, and what she was expected to be. None of it matched, and it seemed to be slowly driving her insane. The only thing from holding her back from that cliff of insanity was the desperate craving for normalcy that she clawed at constantly. It shouldn’t have been this hard for her, should it?

Sudden warmth touched against her cold skin and she flinched slightly, unsure but still comforted by this contact. Illuminated rubies glanced down to the contrast of achromic fur to her own mixture of darkly earthen tones. Diosa let her drown drop lower, her shoulders shaking ever so slightly in the dimness as she cried silently. Diosa, there’s nothing wrong with you. If you want to show you are a different wolf than what others think, I would be more than happy to help. A soft whine escaped her maw, as she nodded her head vigorously. Please Khaleesi, I will do whatever it is that I must. And I know that I have a long ways to go, but there is nothing that will stop me. Diosa wiped away her tears, and smiled weakly as she mustered what confidence she could into her words. Without warning though, her ears flicked backwards catching the slight rustle of undergrowth. The sudden screech of crows overhead told the Heiress exactly what she feared was coming. Cocoa ears pinned flat, a terrified look breaking her moment of weakness instantly.

Khaleesi, you must go. It’s not safe for you here, I won’t risk her finding you in her frenzied craze. Diosa stood abruptly and nudged the ivoress with increasing urgency trying to get her away from the border and back into the envelope of the world outside of Caidir Olc. Run Khaleesi, go back to Dierne Hrof! Diosa shouldered Khaleesi, before turning tail and running back into Caidir, a screeching cackle breaking the eerily silent air not long after. Diosa could only hope that the white woman had taken heed to her warning. Lucyne was in a state of derangement, that only Diosa could damper.

A sobbing scream echoed out into the depths of the midnight air, before silence once more cocooned the terra. Too much and not enough had happened in these last few weeks. Spring had once more crowned the earth, which meant that Caidir’s humid air only grew heavier in the residents lungs and tried to suffocate them faster. And then there was what was truly the cause of this agonized outrage. Lucyne was dead. Dead. Diosa replayed the word over and over in her mind, trying desperately to understand how it was that her mother and the Queen had managed to kill herself. Their breed was more resilient wasn’t it? Sure they weren’t immortal, but they were unscented, practically invisible to the nose. Their vision was immaculate in the depths of darkness and they could hear the heartbeat of another from a distance unheard of in mortals. How had her mother been killed then? Lucyne had been an immaculate fighter, even for how insane she was. A sinking feeling told Diosa that it was exactly who she suspected it was. There was no other being who would ever had the urge to kill so randomly.

Draven.

That sick bastard had done it. Diosa knew it. She couldn’t find anyone else within the pack who would have ever had a vendetta of some kind against Lucyne. And Draven never needed reason to kill or to act out in vengeance. Diosa had not had the heart to go out and face the world though since she had found her mother’s body outside the caverns of Drylic Cofa and had dragged it back to the borders to mourn. This is where she had met the silvery pelted woman, Sebring. She had helped Diosa bury her own mother, and kept her company in those days afterwards. Which in that delirious haze of death, Diosa realized she was now the Queen, only she was not of age and she was not going to let Draven take the pack from her. For it was the Dux that was set to take the throne should the Arbitrium pass before her offspring could take the throne, and Draven was Dux. And somehow Sebring and Diosa struck a deal, the silvery woman would take the throne with Diosa still set to inherit it all once of age. Diosa would still hold strings that tied into the leadership, for Sebring was more of a pawn and placeholder for the heiress until she could fulfill her position truly. Other than this Diosa found herself wandering to the borders each evening hoping that she would see that familiar white figure she had met those weeks ago.

Khaleesi had not been back to the borders Diosa had literally screamed and pushed her across the borders back to the outside world. Silently though Diosa dearly wished that she would return, she needed someone to talk to that was not within her pack… She needed a friend and a purposeful distraction. She needed Khaleesi.
