Ernesto had been surprised that day that he and Oswin had run into each other again and shared an unexpected tryst. She hadn’t seemed all that into him back when they’d been pummelling each other on the battlefield, or while she had served out her self-imposed imprisonment in the Lagoon until she finally bested him. But perhaps he didn’t really understand women, and maybe he never would.

Besides, seeing her fight so hard to beat him was kind of hot.

And now she wanted his company up on that mountain the Vulcans called home, so Ernesto supposed amusedly to himself that she must be really into him now. He was intrigued to see the Peak in the flesh, after having been cooped up in the Lagoon for so long, and to meet with the ladies within it – or one of them in particular, at least.

Maybe if he was lucky it would turn out to be a booty call after all.

He began the ascent up the mountain lazily, taking his time and drinking in the sights and smells that surrounded him. It felt strange yet freeing to be so out in the open, away from the close, thick are and foliage of the Lagoon. He didn’t bother to call out or announce his arrival, knowing that Oswin or one of the other ladies would find him on his way soon enough.
