At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

A Promise Was Made

He had been quiet as of late, spending his time with Kirastasia and her plethora of pups. They were adorable - delicate and sweet really, and despite that the second litter had not belong to him, he treated all of them as if they were his own. He showed no preference for those of the first litter – which were those of his blood - or those of the second litter… In truth, he was the one great father of his line, far surpassing his own father Aindreas, or his grandfather Kalgalath. He was attentive to them in their needs, attentive to his mate, and chose them first above his own wants. Their happiness and survival came before his own, and so, to say the least, he was in a constant state of ecstasy. It could not be ruined nor marred, not even by his mate‘s polygamist ways. He was not blind nor stupid, and he did not miss a single time that she glanced at Kahlan with lust or love. Nor did he fault her for the way that she strayed from his side, strayed from their den. As long as she had love for him as well, it was enough. You could even say that he had found his purpose in life… But perhaps that was his downfall. Perhaps his instinct to survive weakened since he had at last found everything he had ever wanted in life. After Motionless had left, dead or an outcast, he did not know which, he assumed he would never have a friend again. But that had all changed when he had met Kira… And she had not only replaced Motionless, but become something so much more. His heart beat for her, held him to her, and he had given her everything -his heart, his innocence, his time, his love…

And though he could not possibly know it… His life.

It had been the tingling in the air, the foul taste on his tongue, the darkening of the auras around him… and it had told him something was wrong. Just as when he had made his transformation into a Oferweder, he felt and heard the cries of the Arcus Irae, fear most prevalent above all others. And so he had given a single last kiss to his mate and each of his pups, had told them each he loved them, and then had gone running off to war. He gave no hesitation, for anything that could upset the delicate creatures so fiercely was surely a danger to his mate, and perhaps even more so to his pups. After all, all of them were tempests, be they Oferwederen or Haeld… And the war with the vampires would be their war once they grew up and came of age, and the less danger presented to them, the better. Drizzt was built much like his father, almost exactly really, with large paws, long legs, and a lean but muscular body. And it was these paws that pounded and dug into the earth as he galloped across the terra, leaving his den, his pack, his home. It was these long limbs that stretched with each stride, hoping to get wherever his destination was quicker, so as to end the battle as swiftly as possible, to eliminate the threat. It was into those well-defined muscles that adrenaline flowed freely, fueled by the anger and ire of his Tempest soul, and endless supply of energy lent to him until the battle was over, be it won or lost.

Time meant nothing to him, for in this state he would not tire… But he would be utterly spent once the battle was through. And although it was hours that he ran, he was still fresh by the time he arrived, the war begun, and the first battle nearly over. Without hesitation, he leapt into the fray, with a snarl, without any fear for his life. He saw the mortal standing to the side and understood the peril - without Tempest blood in their veins, a single bite from a vampire could possibly kill them. He saw his father, his grandfather, his uncle… And went after those he deemed most deadly first. He recognized Draven from the attack on Caidir Olc, when he had aided Lucaya in overthrowing Motionless. And so he leapt at him, hoping to grab his scruff and hurl him to the side. And after that, he was leaping at the next vampire he saw - Thackary as it were. Drizzt’s teeth agape, he lunged at his forelimb, clamping down with all the power that he had, hoping to snap it, take him out of the bottle, or at least slow him down. And then… Then he saw the vampire Queen‘s daughter. But he did not see a teenager before him, nor a pup or an innocent… But a monster, one who had contributed to the destruction of Motionless‘s reign. And so his next two attacks were aimed on her -His first bite at her hind limb, since she was turned away from him, aiming for her stifle and pulling out sideways to try to cause the most maximum damage. Whether he tore the supporting ligaments, fractured bone, or dislocated the leg up at the hip, he did not care. He just wanted her to hurt… And to turn and face him. Whether or not she did, his last attack was at her elbow on the same side - two injured limbs was one thing, but two injured limbs on the same side would not allow her to run. And so here, here he grabbed and crushed as hard as he could, hoping to hear bone crack, not letting go until he knew some damage had been done. But so focused was he up on this, that he left himself honorable to attacks. Much better him than others already injured. Although he was still young and life, he found his happiness. Would they?
